Protege Stalls at High RPM

I have a 97 DX,1.5 Protege that stalls out at high RPM. I took it to a mechanic who ran his analyzer on it and he said it came back witht the following codes:

PO 100 MAF CIRCUT FAULT
PO 140 02 SENSOR 1 OF 2 NO ACTIVITY
PO 170 FUEL TRAIN BANK 1
PO 505 IDEL CONTROL SYSTEM PROBLEM

The mechanic said to fix my car it would cost almost $1000 for parts and labor and frankly I don't really have the money and am wondering if the car would really be worth fixing for that. Also I'm not sure whether or not I can trust this mechanic. Things just didn't feel right.

I took the car to another mechanic and he said he got a code something like "O2 sensor not connected. He is not real knowledgable on Mazada's (he's been very reasonable and trustworthy in the past) and he is not so sure that I need all these parts and that maybe just a MAF sensor would fix it or maybe just an O2 sensor would be the cheapest and first thing to try, see if that fixes it and go from there.

I have been reading some on these forums and I see where some suggest starting out with replacing the vacume hoses. This mechanic said he would try that first. I also gave him a can of MFS cleaner to try.

Also a while back I was having some rough running problems and I saw where the air intake hose had a tear in it. I wrapped tape around it, replaced the air filter, fuel filter, plug wires and plugs because it was running a bit rough at that time. It did seem to help a lot..and that was a couple of months ago. I would like to replace the air intake hose and if any one knows where to buy one cheap please let me know. Maybe that would help.

Am not sure what to try at this point. I keep thinking that it might be something simple and not too expensive to fix the car. Any ideas or insight would be much appreciated. Thanks jrc

sounds like a bunch of electrical connectors loose or dirty
contact cleaner - less than $10

I repared my intake hose. I used shrink wrap ( glad wrap type stuff) and foil tape. I dont know where to buy one, junkyard maybe.
