Protege 5 mods

MP5 Yellow
Whatsup guys, I am a new member to this forum and want to get advice, insite and some direction regarding modifying my MP5.

The vehicle is primarily stock besides some MP3 rims, and a kicker sub in the back.

I am looking for guidence with modifying my MP5 for speed and handling. I understand that cold air intake is a good step, and cat back exhaust is good as well. Im a bit intimidated by after market headers, turbos and what not.

I am also aware that firmer springs and sway bars are a good way to upgrade my handling.

I would like insite from experienced tuners regarding value added products, meaning products that give good performance without breaking the bank.

Also I would like to find a shop that has experience with Protege's preferably an MP5.

Thank you in advance,
Grey

whats up Grey? welcome to the group. first you need to pick which direction you want to go first, make it handle better or make it faster. The faster part is gonna be hard to do without spending some cash. As for handling, you will be impressed if you were to put racing beat suspension parts on your car. Look through for sale threads on the forum for MSP/ MP3 suspension parts, sway bars, strut bar, springs and shocks. Other things to look at are AWR sway bars, trailing links, etc. and GT Spec pieces, they are reasonably priced and can make the car a lot stiffer. As for speed you gonna be limited, change out your entire exhaust, exhaust manifold back, CAI, and then you are kinda done until you want to venture spending a lot of money doing a turbo set-up correctly or doing a lot of internal work on the engine. Good luck with it all. As for shops I can't think of any, most of the local guys here do all our own work, so we are familar with the protege, ask Rogue, we have swapped out or worked on just about every part you can think of on his car, P5, including an engine swap. Just ask questions, come meet us and check out our cars for ideas, we would be glad to help you out however we can.

Cool, you found us... welcome.

Remember, you want to figure out what class to run in before you decide on mods. Class will determine what mods are allowed what ones are not.

oh cool, so you must have met Brian and you are interested in autox. Thats great! Are you planning on being out Sunday? If so look around for us and I am sure you can get some ride alongs

hey Grey! Welcome to the GA section. Velocifero's right, we've done everything on my car except putting in a transmission. I have an intake, exhaust header, and a full exhaust system (catless). I also have upgraded coilover suspesnion and sway bar. It's a fun car for sure. Another great mod is a shortshifter (my prefernce is TWM) if you have a manual.

If you're interested I'll have an INJEN intake, OBX header, and Racing Beat axel back exhaust coming up for sale soon.

Welcome to the forums. I think everyone has you coverd on parts. If you are looking for a good shop that is protege specific go to Auto Rage the guy that ownes it knows his stuff. He has a yellow P5 and has built some P5's with crazy #'s Again welcome, the Ga guys/Gals are cool as hell.

98% of everything I purchased &/or installed was sourced on Ebay. Cheapy works for the P5....

How much do you think your gonna want for the header?

I'll also have an Injen CAI, AWR 4-2-1 header, and a racingbeat rear sway bar with mp3 endlinks and new AWR 20mm bushings...
the injen is the only thing that people haven't claimed "dibs" for.

i'll make a for sale thread later this week

I would be interested in the Injen, how much do you want for it?

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. I am not looking to autocross I guess I found myself on the wrong website and I was redirected over here.

I am looking to just increase my overall response in the car. It seems that Mazda just didnt open her up enough for me. So my goal is to give the car a nice deep sound like the STI has and give it some more power overall. And also to better the response in turns.

I do like JDM-P5's response about using Ebay, and I can see that JDM has some springs, coilovers and struts on Ebay.

JDM if you have any of these how are they responding on your car?

It will NEVER sound like a boxer.

You can get some more power, and you can get it more responsive....

It will NEVER sound like an EssTeeEye....ever....

Im trying to avoid the high pitched civic sound for something deeper. STI is the only example that comes to mind.

Thats not true Wayne, well partially not true, he said "deep like a STi" not "like a STi", there is a difference. And speaking of that, when Kevin Hewitt had the MP3 with the MAM turbo kit just at open DP it sounded "deep like a STi" and Korey and I belive his car will sound pretty close to stompy's when he puts the open DP on his. But you are correct that it will never sound "like an STi" different cylinder alignment, compression, and unequal length header. So Grey if you want to get it to that then you are gonna have to go turbo and into deeper pockets. Doing a NA build will get you a totally different sound.

First of all welcome to the board.....second If you live on the southside of Atlanta you need to visit Micah at Autorage it is in Fayetteville....he is buddy of mine and if you ever have to leave your car there for any length of time you know that it is in good hands customers cars are always left in the garage over night and also if you get a chance to go there you need to check out his MP3 (total sleeper) he is running about 300 whp its insane to ride in...I have the Greddy Evo 2 cat back exhaust on my car and it sounds great. I did not go with an intake because I just don't like that sound that it makes anymore...my wife says I'm just growin up....whatever....anyway as far as the handling of your car I would go with Tein. I have the Tein basic damper kit which is still kind of expensive, but if you think about it if you go with just springs and then later on down the road you buy new aftermarket struts you have spent just about the same amount that I did. After you do the suspension make sure that you upgrade your sway bars...I have yet to do it, but I have a baby on the way so things have slowed down a bit, but anyway just remember that anytime you get ready to buy something you can always ask us first
