Pros and Cons of Toga Bearings versus Stock Bearings

I could never understand why the stock headgasket has such small passages towards one end. It's got to be for controlling flow. But even still I think they are too small!

I will be running my copper gasket (o-ringed, no receiver groove however), if that fails, Topline mls...

i was told this by an engine builder.

i was put it to me this way....he said... engineers spend millions of dollars to make oem bearings to last 100,00 + miles. Most race/aftermarket bearings are NOT made to last this long. I dont know the validity of it but it makes some sense to me.

a race/aftermarket bearing might be better for the race application sure. but dont expect it to last forever. OEM might not be as tough as the aftermarket but it comes down to if you are going to need that extra protection or not. If you dont need it, stick with oem, they are made to last longer, if you NEED the better bearings, then get them as most of the parts in your "race" engine will need service checks/rebuilds more often than oem anyhow.

thats my .02

I agree with the frequent servicing...

Actually, they design the bearings to be the cheapest solution out there that will work for the motors design, which, btw, was not meant for more than 200hp (if that much). Tell your engine builder thanks for playin...j/k (sort of)

I'll bet my DP is bigger than yours ;)... or will be when I have it done that is :)

I did stick with the toga's. So we'll see how they treat me in the end. I'm also running the stock head gasket with head studs and also a set of main studs.

I'm hoping to have my motor back and ready to drop in the car at the end of next week... otherwise it will be mid the week after.

That'd be what I'm running a custom 3" DP mating to an EVO III Cast O2 housing that is ported from the normal 2.5" to just shy of 3" to dump nicely into the DP. Beautiful O2 housing :)

I'll give you that... but you won't be making 400 horse either ;) LOL... just teasin man.. I got love for the "little" motors too ;)

Turfburn- microtech- anyone running it? I'm so lazy and am only upto date on the haltech and somewhat the AEM.

I'm also using the same combination as you- Toga bearings, ARP studs, and topline (OEM) Headgasket. :)

Just make sure the balancing and tolerances are done right and you should be okay...

hrm, just thinking about what toga says about bearings- what are people thinking about rev + built motor? not like i'm going to sit at 8k all day...

no i know. ive been down that road before with a different economy car. :) i wont go there again. Ill be well within the oem bearing specs. im only goin for around 248whp so this thread doenst even apply to me. heh. Ill probably have mam build my block anyhow cause bottom ends scare me.
