Project Protege #2: A Mod Diary

damn, u need to open your own P5 shop. you're talented. I would go to your shop. Sorry if i didn't read enough and i'm just asking a dumb question but what was that little switch next to the fuse box for?

Hello everyone.

Obviously I haven't updated this thread in a long, long while.

As the story goes I bought a house ( a set of flats) in the summer of 2007, and it immediately consumed all my time. I've been doing all the renovation work myself like a good DIYer - including complete gutting of 3 bathrooms, two kitchens, and a ton of landscaping.

This is where my Diary comes to a depressing end.

two weeks ago I was driving home from Parlee Beach to Halifax and the back end of the car started to feel like it was floating-shifting side to side. I pulled over to see what was going on and saw that the edge of the belt was exposed on my passenger side rear tire. I limped the car another 20 K to a shop where it sat for a week. When I finally got back to it I learned that I had blown a lateral link and the toe of my rear wheel had kicked in, shredding the tire along the outside edge.

With my car on the lift I nearly cried. I haven't been under her in about a year - and this last winter ate the underside of my car like a cancer. Everything from the gas tank back is soft - there is a fuel smell (but no drips) and the suspension is all rusted to s***. My rear bumper separated from the wheel well from rust eating the connection as it was on the lift being looked at. The hatch is bubbled extensively.

I've been looking at cars all week. The part out of my car (everything in this thread) started today. Although it is still possible I'll end up with another mazda, I think it is highly unlikely. I need something that can handle the terrible winters and gross amounts of salt on our road here, and I don't think mazda has it.

I took a 2008 Imprezza Hatch out today - and I really liked it on the highway. Its too bad it doesn't have that zoom zoom feeling when cruising around the city that my P5 did.

I'll be starting a part out thread shortly in the marketplace but PM me if there is anything you want to call dibs on.

Damn, sucks dude. She was coming along so nicely. Just finished reading through out the thread and now this. Straight killed my buzz.. GLWS and can only hope you stick with Mazda for more Diaries ;)

Sorry to hear about your car. I went thru several of the first pages, but theres just too much. I am looking for left and right motor mounts. Do you have aftermarket like AWR or something?

Sorry to hear about your car. I had just found this thread and was really enjoying it. Looks like it's time for a new project!
