Insurence on this car is cheap compared to my other car! I was paying 178 a month for liability insurence on a 94 grand am (cheapest rate I could find - Mr Auto) and on my MP5 I pay 166 full coverage! I'm 22 and dont have a thing on me!

I have a few issue with the sunroof rattles when open... I tink its just the brackets for the sliding door thing for a lack of what better to call it.

I also have abelt chirping issue when the car shift some times (ATX with 137-138K on it).

But no real issues in the 8k miles of me owning the car in the past 4 months. I did however have abelt break but thats because it was old more then likely.

WTF i pay soo much more!!! are u on ur parents insurance or by urself?>

Wow, full coverage... that is pretty cheap. I pay ~$1000 CAD per year for just liability, which works out to be maybe $850 USD, which is $70 USD/mo. And I'm 18, first car, still have a newbie license.

had it in the dealership this week for a warranty replacement of my climate control panel (the thing with the dials and switches). A/C light was flickering, apparently due to faulty electronics. That's the only warranty work it's had. It's definitely been a very reliable car for the last 3 years :)

i have good news! im going to resurrect an old thread!

I didnt buy a P5 but a friend of mine just did. Its an '02 and i was wondering if any of you have taken the badges off of the back of it? On my friends, the mazda badge is loose she is concerned with that. so i was wondering if there are any holes underneath the badge?

thanks again guys!

My car is in the shop and part of it is replacing the holes the badges left. They are pushpin pressure clip screw type things. Best thing is to remove the hatch plastic cover piece on the inside of the hatch and than squeeze the pins and push them through.

is that for the Protege5 badge or the Mazda badge, b/c her mazda badge seems to be on with tape. but it looks like it may have been re-installed.

Just hit 89,300 mi. on my 02.5... Gas and Oil is all she needed to get there, and I beat her ass to Atlanta 85 mi round trip everyday! Love my (humpleg) car!

I collect reliability data on these cars. For 2002s and 2003s they have low repair rates, about one repair trip for every two cars per year.

On mine, which I've owned 3.5 years, I've had two minor repairs, an ABS sensor and a headlight bulb.

It does rattle on rough roads, but that's just the way it is.

The main weakness of the car in my experience is that the sheetmetal dings very easy. Before I sell mine (no plans to do so currently) I'll have to make one of those paintless dent removal guys very happy. Lots of small dings on my car.
