hate to say it but im part of the problems crew!
before i didnt notice it at all, but now i have them all!
1. the clunk on start up
2. hesitation 3-4k
3. stiff shifter transmission
4. alignment off to the left
5. worst of all, coolent leak

i only have 1400 miles on my car and i havent even driven it hard yet!
dam! what to do now!
i hope mazda knows that we have these problems and is trying to do something to kix this.

Man I don't understand that everyone is having all these problems with their cars. I have had my car now for 2 months and I dog the s*** out of it and I have had NO problems. I must of pick a very good one out of the litter.

1. Get used to it as it won't go away until Mazda fixes it.
2. ECU problem....Mazda needs to address it
3. Nothing you can do here, has it gotten worse since you owned it? These trannies are known to be a little stiffer then say qa honda.
4. Alignment should have been done before she left the lot, there's a tsb on it so that it's done during the pdi
5. This is not good.

Bottom line, goto dealer, b**** about it, call Mazda of USA if need be, make sure all the right people know about the clunk/hesitation and coolant leak so we can all have a better chance of getting REAL fixes and not some half assed job by the dealers.

oh, and good luck

1. the clunk on start up
2. hesitation 3-4k
3. stiff shifter transmission
4. alignment off to the left
5. worst of all, coolent leak

1. Mazda USA is not seeking a permanent fix for this
2. Mazda USA is claiming it is "characteristic" of the MSP
3. This will improve with driving more
4. Get an alignment somewhere other than a Mazda dealer because they didn't fix mine
5. Mazda USA needs a recall on this but I'm sure it won't happen because it's not safety related (almost everyone has a coolant leak)

p.s. I like my mazdaspeed!

That's funny.....

For the Hessitation and Stumble member No. 5 said that Mazda Canada is aware of the problem and is working out the solution......

Does that mean Mazda USA needs to be bitched at more?

Besides the hesitation from time to time I have no problems ether. Ive been dogging the s*** out of mine too and have about 3k miles on it now. Maybe you should start dogging yours. Its working well for bcadboy & myself. s*** Im going to Myrtle Beach SC. Tonight from Florida, then to Kennesaw GA. For a meet. Im thinking that will be close to a 2k mile trip..

hesistation for me only happens under mild acceleration, under hard acceleration it is barely noticeable and only sometimes..

BTW I just got my MSP back from the dealer with hesitation issue and a small coolant leak. They put a real hose clamp on the leak hopefully this will fix it. As far as the hesistation they don't know what it is. So I guess will live with it for a while until more people have time to bring thier MSP's to the dealer and this issue gets more attention. Oh and I love MY MSP regardless of the little nit picky s***!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(drinks) (2thumbs)

Problems with under 2k

I have under 2k and experiance two annoying problems:

1) Clunk from the rear
2) noise from the turbo. Dealer said it was normal for a turbo to make a "glub-glub" sound. Termed it as backpressure or backwash.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Love the car, just not sure if the dealers are equipped to troubleshoot the design.

Hey Genie, like the guy above said, your "turbo noise" is probably just the recirculate valve. Depends when it's making the noise. If it happens when you take your foot off the gas (like when you shift) it will make noise. Mine does....all MSPs do from the factory. That's why people blow coin on different "BOV"s or recirc valves - to make it sound cool instead of like a drowning turkey.

You hit it right on girth. As for when it happens, it does happen when I take the foot off the gas.

FLM... the guy told me the same about the turbo flutter.

So I guess your dealer left you with the problem? Nothing they could do?

Have any thoughts on the clunk from the rear. I saw some other stuff leading me to believe it might be the rear swaybar.

Some peeps have tried installing a different BOV to achieve that cool "psssshhhhhhh" sound instead of the turkey sound, but I'm not sure if it really works unless it releases to the atmosphere. I'll let others reply on that subject since I haven't messed with it myself -- for now I'm sticking with mine sounding like a turkey!

As far as the "clunk" - it seems that everyone has it and nobody has been able to permanently fix it that I know of. Every case I've heard of, they take it to the dealership and get their bushings replaced, which fixes it temporaryly but it always comes back. Once again I can't comment on this subject much either because I'm still not sure I even have the "clunk." My suspension makes noise, but it's not a "clunk." It's more like an occasional "click" or "creek." I 'think' that's the same thing everyone else is referring to all the time, but I haven't worried about it myself because nobody knows how to fix it anyway (including Mazda).

get a shifter bushing for the stiff shifter. i took mine in and they coudlnt figure it out. i took it to another dealership where the master tech races mazdas and is mazdaspeed certified. says its the high temp exhaust causing the shifter bushing to be mushy. so get a polyurethane shift bushing kit. coolant is crappy clamp and hose get those replaced and itll be gone. never heard of clunk in mine. hesistation is from bad fuel igniton map in ecu.

Hell, I think doggin the car might help like others said. Ive only had some problems.
Hesitation
Pull to left(didnt happen till after autocross)
