Problem with RX-8 NEED HELP!!!!
why are you runnig 93? rotaries can run 87 no problem, anyhting else is wasting money.
RX-8's Renesis has 10.0:1 compression, much higher than the old 13B NA

ECU is also tuned for premium gas, running regular will cause knock sensor to detune the engine to prevent detonation.

yeah, they pushed the lil motor for too much na hp for a production car IMO.

Our local dealership has been having success with installing new OMPs. Mine uses more than twice as much oil as before. Makes sense that the 1st motor was prematurely worn. many other things have been replaced as well, but the motors are oil-starved from the factory IMO. Me thinks this is how Mazda got the rotary to pass emissions. This brings up a big "uh-oh" when it comes to us folks having to get the cars smog tested in a few years. :(

Lucky me that isn't until 2008, and they only do the plug in for OBDII :D

hehe WOOT for living in a area full of rednecks, mustangs, camaros and farm trucks.

aka no emissions :) If they did probably good 80% of the cars here would fail.

help

Ok so this is for my mom's RX-8. 04 with auto. Car has tremendous hesitation and has been cutting off frequently. Also sometimes during acceleration a knocking or metal reattling is heard. I know what engine knock is and I am very familiar with cars and rotary power so save the remedial ed comments. Need help here. She puts 93 only in it. Could she just have gotten a bad tank of gas??? (maybe clogged the fuel filter) I mean this has been happening off and on for the last 3 months and the dealer is being no help.(never seems to do it when we take it in or so they say) Anyone else out there with anything like this???? Also is what I am hearing the rotors, kind of like pinging and piston rattle. Any help would be appreciated. It's getting dangerous for my mom to even drive the car as it cuts off in the middle of traffic.(help)

funwagon my mom has a 2006 auto rx8 and she havin the same problem did you ever solve the mystery???

Adiram, I moved this into the RX8 section. You will have to give us more details. You said your mom has an 06 but how many miles, and has she had the recalls done. What reflash is the car on (this is important, there is more information about this in the link in my sig). Does the car have any CEL's showing or stored in the memory? Could be a lot of things, but if the car has been on the same coild for more than 30k miles that is a good place to start. The coils should be replaced every 30k. You can also check the fuel filter on the fuel pump (in tank type so you will need a specialized tool to get to it, but it is available at Napa). Post some details and maybe we can narrow it down a bit.
