problem with p5!

Recently (past few months), my car has been acting really strange. It's at about 78k miles right now and is an automatic transmission. It seems that every so often when i'm driving and i start slowing down and i try come to a complete stop by car sort of jerks a bit before it stops. also, a couple of times the car will jerk hard and the car itself will completely die. idk how that is really possible. if anyone has any suggestions or ideas, please let me know!! thanks!

Oh...if that is, in fact, the problem with your car, be sure you get the correct sensor. I got a generic one at an auto parts store and either they gave me the wrong one or the generics are not the same. Check and be sure the "holes" on the new sensor are the exact same as the ones on the stock sensor. When I had the wrong one on, it had the same issues but once a stock replacement was installed, the car ran fine, and has been running fine for well over a year now...or it may have even been longer than that by now. :)

so either oxygen sensor or EGR valve? best thing to do is probably take it to the dealership and have them tell me what's wrong

Oh...mine went on and off and when I had it read, it was the oxygen sensor. It could be either of the two issues, but what you described sounds exactly like what happened to my car. I cleaned the EGR valve first, but it didn't fix the problem. Then, the light came on and I found out it was the o2 sensor.

If the o2 and/or EGR aren't the cause, it might be time for a tranny flush if you haven't done one recently. The maintence schedule is about every 40k miles. I'd recommend Amsoil synthetic ATF. It'll last about 2x as long as conventional. The tranny isn't probably the cause of the engine killing, but it could account for some jerking going on.

does your car fly out of gear w/o notice?

yes actually, i have noticed that it does that occasionally. the rpms will jump really high and i have to let off the gas to stop from redlining. any thoughts?

my 02 auto revs up about a grand goin from 2nd to 3rd but thats cuz the tranny is slippin (gettin worse :() bout time for a new tranny i guess.
when its cold it slips every gear just about.

The tiptronic is known to pop out of gear and have other show-stopping issues. Might be worth getting it checked out by the dealer. Also, check your tranny fluid level and make sure it is ok, since it sounds like you had a shop do it. Make sure they put enough in! Have you checked into the o2 and EGR as being the culprit yet?
