Problem with Auto Dim Mirror with Compass and Homelink!

I installed the auto dim Mirror with Homelink to my 09 Mazda 5. The homelink works, but the compass and auto dim do not work. Per instruction, I did tab the wire onto the blue/red stripe. But the instruction is for 06 model. Is there any different? what did I do wrong? is there any other wire which I can tab onto and make it work? Please Help!!!

have you checked to make sure that you actually have power going to the mirror?

I checked the compass and auto dim by switching the connection with the homelink power(Green/Blk strip) and the compass and auto dim works. I measured the voltage on the Blue/Red strip wire and it has 12 volt on it all the time even the key at the off position. It doesn't seem like the ignition wire.

Sounds like you took a look at this forum post?

I have an 06 and sounds like you tapped the wrong wire. See the above link.

If that doesn't help, you're going to need to check your wires again with a meter both key on and key off to ensure you have the right ones. If the crimps don't seem to fit because the wire is to thick, you have the wrong wire.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! To Sonic boy. Problem Solve. I tapped to the green/black Strip with silver dot and it works now. Bad instruction by the manufacture. Thanks again for pointing to me the right direction.

Cannot Program HomeLink Mirror?

I took my 5 into the dealer (Wolfe Mazda, Langley, BC) a few weeks after receiving it since the self-dimming mirror with compass and HomeLink was on order. They installed it and the self-dimming and compass parts work fine.

I cannot get the HomeLink buttons to work though. The LED turns on and off with the switch but I can hold the HomeLink buttons 1 and 2 to clear the memory and it will not flash. I tried holding one button and it won't flash. Tried this with the ignition on and off and with the mirror switched on and off.

I don't want to mess with this to much since the dealer did the install but I looked under the front of the headliner and the wires definitely run to the driver's side. They left me the operating instructions but not the install instructions. I am assuming they hooked it up wrong, like the one in the linked thread?

If it works with the key off, you could have a deffective mirror. The programming instructions were pretty straight forward. I've responded to your PM.

HomeLink mirror instructions

Thanks to SonicBoy for the install instructions! Obvioulsy they're not quite clear enough for some people! Will take some pictures to show the dealer service manager IF I go back there, but will fix it myself tomorrow. They tied into a Blue w/red stripe and silver dots and a Green w/black stripe and silver dots on the driver's side. When I switched the wires and turned the key on, the Homelink worked fine.

My Audi's HomeLink only works with the key on and I was thinking of hooking the 5 up the same way. That way, if someone broke into the car, they wouldn't be able to get into my garage and house. Any thoughts? Does the HomeLink lose it's memory if you turn the power off?

Thanks.

I just got the mirror installed @ the deal and my homelink buttons don't work either. The power button for the dimming works and so does the compass. Can someone send me a link to the instructions on how to fix? I don't want to go back to those idiots.

Took the car back to the dealer and they determined that the mirror was defective. Hope that is the case. This is getting old.
