Hey Folks,
After talking with Mike and Chris we've decided that M-SPEC will now have a probational member status for new club members.
I hope everyone will understand that this is not meant in any negative way. We simply feel that it is best not to be handing out stickers to people who have only attended one meet. Not that we don't want new members or that we are trying to make M-SPEC exclusive in any way. Simply, we want to get to know new members to gauge how commited they are going to be to the club and how they will represent the club around the island.
There are two reasons we want to institute this plan. First, M-SPEC is dedicated to the idea of a group of Mazda enthusiasts who want to modify their car for show, go or both and to help other members do the same to their cars. Because of this, we don't want someone who comes to one meet and claims to be a member but doesn't attend any meets after that or ever help any other members. (Note: I am not saying that this is something that has ever happened, but something we want to prevent.) Second, M-SPEC does not in any way condone street racing. The last thing we want to see is someone who runs our logo on their car end up getting arrested for racing or worse. We feel that getting to know a person over the span of a few meets will allow us to better know if this is something we would have to worry about with that person.
All that being said. From here on out new members will maintain a probational status until they have joined us at three events. Probational members or non-members are still welcome to purchase the basic M-SPEC T-shirt. However, they will not be able to run the M-SPEC logo on their ride until they are a full member of the club.
However, we do understand that because of work schedules and other conflicts it may take certain people a long time to be able to attend three events. Such situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. (In other words the club will be more than happy to work with anyone who wants to join the club.)
Of course this brings up our friends over on the Big Island. Basically, I leave that up to you guys. If you want to be affiliated with M-SPEC, we are more than happy to have you. But, you will be a seperate chapter. You need to figure out what direction you want to take that chapter (ie who's in charge, how many members, chapter policies, etc.) We will be more than happy to supply you with vinyls and T-shirts, but you need to determine how you want to run your chapter.
Ok, I know this is a lot of info. So, if there are any questions, complaints, gripes, and/or bitches please post them on here. We'll be more than happy to answer.
Thanks,
Lang
