Pro 5 V.S. Pr5

:
02 MP5
I was just wondering what the most popular or most commonly accepted abbreviation is Pro 5 or Pr5 (or any others that I'm not awear of for that matter). I tend to lean towards Pro 5, but I was thinking about getting a sticker on my window and Im not sure which to go with.

I have another quick question, I have notice some of you guys are making distintions beteen owning a 2002 and a 2002.5 Pro5.
How can I tell which mine is, and what is the diffrence between the two.:wtf:

The most visible difference will be a sidemarker on the front fender (behind the wheel, above the molding). I think 2002.5 also have a 6 speakers stereo instead of 4. That's all I can think of since we didn't have 2002.5 here in Canada.

As for the abbreviation I use Pro5 (as you can tell). Seems meaningful to me.

MP5 is what I use and I agree with Yello_Pro5. I don't think that the 2002.5 was available in Canada. The only 2 so far are the 2002 & 2003 with subtle differences like new rims, black housing headlights & fender markers. Besides that, I think that the only other difference is that the 2003's offer a new colour... Lazer Blue.

Also, as I have understood it, these will be the only 2 years of the MP5 or Protege sedan as they will be introducing it's replacement in 2004, the Mazda 3. Am I right?

leather wrapped shift knob was added to 2002.5 and the cup holder was changed.

I call my car a P5. An MP5 is a machine-gun.
The cup-holders on the 2002 and 2002.5 are also different.
The newer models have a deeper cup-holder with no lid.

P5 and MP5 seem to be the most common abbreviations. Some people, particularly on protegeclub.com, get all huffy when someone calls it an MP5, but personally I don't think there can be much confusion between a sport hatchback and a 9mm submachine gun. I call it a P5.

-MP5 - I'm opposed to using MP5 because it's sounds too close to the MP3 (and the machine gun :)). It makes it sound like it's an MP3 with 5 doors.

-PR5 - doesn't roll right. When you write it all caps it makes it seem like an acronym, so you're like "Protege R****** 5? What does the R stand for?" - too confusing when out of the loop.

-Pro5 - much better, the addition of the "o" and having the "r" and "o" in lowercase erases the ambiguity you get from the "R" in PR5

-P5 - My preference, you know it's a Mazda, no need for the M, there are no other P Mazda cars, and we're the only ones with a 5. Short and sweet! :D

Ok, now I'm going to some corner to ponder about why I went into such detail in voicing my opinion on abbreviations for my car:rolleyes:

the changes are as follow:
2002.5 has the clear oval side marker,
cup holder is different,
Auto sport tranny,
tweeters on inside part by the side view mirrors,
leather wrapped shift know,
floor mats are no longer an option its standard now.

Then to agree, but why does Mazda have PR5 on the invoice?

With such a nice car who can blame us for needing a little down time right!?

Is it just me, or is this a really lame upgrade? I mean, if you're going to make a change to the shifter, make it a short throw shifter which is what most people want anyway who buy a sporty car with a manual transmission.

The cup holder still isn't good either - I hate to think what it was before. When I put my travel mug in there, the handle sticks out all over the place and I bang my knuckles on it when I shift into 1st...

Another argument for the short-throw.

Toe-may-toe......toe-mah-toe!

Mazda Protege5
Pro 5
MP5
P5
What ever you call it, it is still an awesome car to drive.
It handles as good if not better than my old IROC-Z.
