Is this a build thread or what? Come on, guy. Swap it already. You know you're dying to hear that ZE at 8k rpm with the GReddy cat-back. Sexy-sexy time.

+1. I think the yota is getting to my head. Lol and my phone immediately corrected "yota" to "tits" the first time around.... Fitting? ;)

Yes, very fitting.

And Evan, your the guy that's always saying you want a multi year build, Mr. Impatient.

Need to get the truck back from the mechanic (it's just getting checked out to make sure it's good 2 go as a DD, and yeah, I could do it myself, but I'm realistic in that I know I wouldn't get it done), need to take the underdrive pulley to the machinest and get that all fixed up and ready for 8k rpms. Then I need to get headers, a few gaskets, and figure out what other small things I need like O2 sensors and whatnot.

By the time I get home from work after almost falling asleep at least 20 times while driving, the last thing I want to do is go start a big project like that. It's a bit of a mixed blessing, but this will be my last week working with Evan, so with only a part time job, I should have time (and more importantly energy) to get some stuff finished up that's been neglected all summer.

Wow, how is it already August..? I should have some more time on my hands now that my full time job is over. Don't worry, I didn't get sacked! ;) It was on part time condition terms since I was/am planning on going back to school.

Some progress made on the multitude of projects. This one was actually put on hold for quite a while because of the weather. Whenever I'd remember, it was always too humid to paint, but not today!

I wanted to paint the fender guards for the Yota. Here's a pic of how they used to be, all chrome and yucky:

And now!

My mechanic got the hitch off with his torch. I don't have an oxy-acetalyne setup, so I felt okay having him to that! I plan to get another, this one was just too far gone with rust IMO

626 news? All I read was "blah blah blah Toyota pickup truck blah blah blah".

for a minute i thought i was in the wrong thread..... then i realized i was! check the title ;)

High five, AJ! haha

Real talk though, I'm interested in your 626 and the KLZE swap. Now that you've got a lot more free time, get the Toyota in DD shape and let's get the 626 swapped, yO! I doubt many people here are interested in your Yota as much as you think. No offense. :)

I dig the Yota... but probably because I always wanted one of them?

I mean, it's your build thread, Wes. You can post whatever you like. Just sayin... Yota = snooze fest.

It's related in that the swap won't go down until the truck's ready, sooo. I could do a few updates about getting it ready, or this thread could have been dormant for the last forever. It won't hurt my e-feelings if you guys don't appreciate the awesomeness of a Toyota pickup. :D

Just hurry up already. I want to hear a true ZE with the GReddy exhaust.

i second the above statement.

why dont you just make a toyota build thread in the "my other ride is not a mazda" section?

Filled up the 626 with premium last night in preparation for the ZE. I don't want any regular grade fuel left in the tank, so I figured I better start before it's totally go time!

An issue I'd been having for quite a while was that under load (anything more than 40-50% throttle?) the engine just sounded downright terrible, like there was metal popcorn in there, or something. It sounded like something had already blown up and was crunching around. I didn't really put a whole lot of thought or concern into it since I was planning to ditch the FS anyway. I just got used to driving it more like a sane person.

Well, after filling up with 93, the noise seems to be gone. This has really left me scratching my head, as in no way should it require 93. First, the compression's only 9:1 or so, from memory, so that's not an issue. Second, when I started driving it, I put it through its paces, and I would really be surprised if there was a bit of carbon build up anywhere in it, haha. Third, I highly doubt that my minor bolt ons (cai, 4-2-1 Ebay Racing! header, 2.25" catback) leaned out the stock map enough to cause detonation due to it running hot.

This is how my plugs looks quite some time ago, maybe 1-2 years ago (I'm sure it was still making the noise back then as well, it has for so long I can't even remember when it started).

Now, this has left me to suspect that it's a ping/knock/pre-ignition of some sort, but I'm pretty puzzled as to what could be causing it. Maybe it will be time to play motor doctor and pull it apart after the swap!
