Pricing....

Well I just bought mine last week. Sticker was over 18k. I had a trade in of 1k, put down 1k, got the 2500 rebate, dealer only charged me 300 or so over list. Total was only slightly over 14k delivered for me. I added takes in on the payments, and got a rate of 3.6% for 60 months and only paying $258. Mine is a 5spd, with cd, ABS, and side airbags in Vivid Yellow. Hope that helps.

I bought mine last weekend with Side Air Bags/Moonroof/ABS/6 CD Changer/Leather Seats/Polished Rims for less than $16K including tax and licensing fee. Basically I had $5000 off (including cash and college rebates + dealer discount) MSRP of $19625. :p

There is another dealer who is even willing to sell me a same configuration model at just $14K ($625 less) but the manager is just plain irritating that I simply walk away even though thats the best price ever I can find.

Go shop around.... dealers are desperate to get ride of the Protege5 now.:D

I feel like i got ass ripped, sorta

here in TO, i got my used p5 with around 20k kms for 18 something, which works out to around 14k usd, and i had to buy the snow tires and rims extra from the dude

Everyone here is telling you go low. I agree. It May 2003 I got a 2003.5 for 14,500 (not including tax) w/ ABS, side airbags, and MT. this was at only $1750 rebate. Current rebate at $2500 I believe. The dealer holdback is $350. This is the amount the dealer will get back from the factory no matter what they sell it to you for, so they always make a bit of money on a sale.

I would have bargained more but only one with these features within 150 miles and I had no car(blown engine). This was the only reason I gave in after an hour of arguing on the price. If you have the time, don't need a car right this minute, walk out and try later if you don't get the price you want. Take the $4500 off the sticker and set that as you top price and you'll get the car, of course lower is better!

Tell them everything you heard here and they'll know you can't be bluffed. The first dealer I went to dropped the sticker to $14500 for the base model(no options) as soon as I called him on the advertised price(area dealer low price) and mentioned Edmunds and the dealer holdback and other incentives(yes there are more than mentioned here) they gave me to the sales manager and he gave me the $14.5 number with no asking.

I left and went to another dealer and got the ABS package($600) plus $100 of extras from the next dealer with the car I wanted at $14.5. Go low or go home.

Ohh thank you everyone! I am going to try and get 15,000 Final sale for it..Including tax and tags. They need to ship a car anyway(They only have automatics) so I have the time and they can't pull any bulls*** to get me in a car that day. I'll keep you guys posted. I go there tomorrow.....Thanks again for all the invaluable help :D

Also, if they have an internet department, look into get a quote that way. The sticker on mine was $17,745 and the internet sales manager E-mailed me a quote of $14,400, which is what I ended up w/ after tax and tags. So, I had maybe 10 min. of bargaining once I decided to buy. Also, he worked on a flat volume commission and that helped too.

I got those numbers from the Internet sales lady. I am meeting her tomorrow. They Have to go to maryland to get the car. They have a black one and a loaded one but no manuals. I have plenty of barganing time. I was going to wait until the new year but I want to take advantage of the 2500 rebate. Thanks again, I'll let you guys know!

Ok So I test Drove the P5 and OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Zoom Zoom  :D :D

They have to send me my car since they didn't have any at the dealership loaded enough with a 5sp. They were pretty firm with the price though. I got them to take 200 off so it would be 15,796 for the car. I don't know if they were bullshitting me or not but they only heard of the 500 additional rebate. They said that since they have to get it delivered here it would be 200 dollars for that 200 for me and 100 for them. I am going to call another dealership on Monday morning. I would assume they would have the right to buy the same car. It Has EVERYTHING except alarm and cass player. Hopefully I can drive it home on Wednesday!

Just today here in San Jose CA there was an ad for a base P5 for $11988. The breakdown was $14988 sale price minus $2500 general and $500 college rebate. Of course these apply to cash purchase. If you are dealer financing there is a smaller rebate, $500 I think.
Go to www.edmunds.com and build your car options list and it will give you the price and all associated rebates.

Now I'm REALLY gonna cry cause we bought my car in full with cash! I could have saved a few thousand! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Rah Sham Bo, walk away from that! They are toying with you. Tell them that the car should go out the door for $14,500 after all the rebates. Mine was $14,800 out the door with a 100,000 mile warranty.
There are other dealers, and they want your business. I bet by the time you got to the front door, they would have a better deal for you. In fact, I will gaurantee it.
Later,
Carl

Its good thing that we have a lot of Mazda Dealers in the Bay Area. We can afford to go dealer-hopping to find the right price and right options.

I just hope that I never have to leave California!!

Rah Sham Bo - If I were you, I would laugh at that offer and simply walk away. But thats just me... ;)

That's right, laugh in his face and leave. This guy is trying to screw you over.

Coqui258, you didn't get the cash rebate when you bought it? That's cold because that is a factory rebate, meaning the dealer doesn't pay the factory does.

Edmunds Invoice is 18,535 with all the options take the 3000 out is 15,535. Its pretty close. That isn't tax/title either. its around 17,000 then. Should I be under the invoice before all the rebates? I am calling 3 places on monday Morning. I live in Philadelphia,PA so I have some selection :p. I don't need the car right away either and I will be paying cash. I'll see how far the Mazda hole goes :D

I also got the "S" plan. I know an employee for Ford so I got another grand off.
Is the one you are looking at an auto? I am too lazy to look up for it.
I still say, that is too high. If you are going to pay that much, wait and get a Mazda 3.
