Pricing on exhaust work....

hey, I am going to be out pricing some exhaust work this weekend and just wanted a basis to go off of to know wether the people are tryin to bend me over or if they are respectable =P

Basically I have an axle back exhaust I am installing this weekend. I want to have a custom mid pipe made for it since a retail one isnt available.

I am going to have the pipe diameter matched to the axle back section, unless there is a reason to go bigger?

So any rough estimates or people who have had similar work done know how much this should cost me, I mean basically I need the pipe mandrel bent to the most straight flowing deisgn possible and have flanges/length/angles set so it bolts directly to the axle back and the 2nd cat(cat-back).

Also is it usually just the cost of the hi flow cat to have one added in when doing exhaust work? or is it just as beneficial to gut it? keep in mind I will be losing the primary cat when I do a header.

Thx for all input in advance guys.

to give you an idea, i'm getting a 3" aluminized steel catback with mandrel bends made for my msp. i was quoted $225 (not including the price of the muffler, which i am supplying). for ss, it was $325. but i don't have that much money so i'm going with aluminized steel. so maybe $100 for aluminized and $150-175 for ss? just a guess.

as far as i know, the only difference is that ss will last you a lifetime. aluminized will rust after maybe 7 years or so (it should last the life of the car). and since you don't live anywhere near the rust belt, you'll be fine with aluminized.

there's no reason to go bigger, and you shouldn't anyways. then you'll just have a bottleneck where your axleback starts.

www.wagnermotorsports.net has a mid pipe (optional high flow cat) available that bolts to stock locations. He also has laser cut flanges if you need them.

yah but last i heard his downpipe with precat was like 300+ so i was assuming his midpipe was around the same, I was lookin more in the price range striker posted, but Ill definately look into it.

yes it is 330$ If you use strickers # 175$ for SS plus at least a 100+ for the random tech cat and at least 40 for the bellow your right on point.

well i was thinkin of the 100 ally midpipe, maybe a ractive high clow cat, depending on the ractive header I plan on getting eleiminating the 2nd cat or not.

if it does then I will leave the stock cat for now and just have a mid pipe made from the 2nd cat back to the axleback flange.

maybe a resinator in it if I do plan on going no cats.

to be honest I plan on always having 1 cat in there, the 2nd and dont know if I would do high flow or not, depends on how much backpressure I need to retain for sustaing low end torque.
