Price paid for my new MP5

Hey guys, I've had my MP5 for two weeks now and really like it. Got about 500 miles on it. I only found out about the car one week before I bought it and quickly decided it was the one for me. Went in with the newspaper ad and had bought the car within two hours. No fuss, no muss. Cost me $14,995 + TT&L = $16,144. I thought they were going to jerk me around even with the price printed in black and white, but the guy said all base models were that price. Plus, I looked broke as sh*t and so did my ex-gf, who was with me. During the test drive, one of them snuck out and looked at my old car, which caused them to take [further] pity on me. They offered me $200 for it. LOL. It's going to charity.

It didn't hurt that we're in a screwed-up economy and it was end-of-year. If anyone of you know someone that needs a new car, this seems like a very good time to buy. I got mine at Town North Mazda in Richardson, TX. It was a very smooth transaction, except for the finance guy, who in so many words called me an idiot for paying cash for the car when I could get 0% if I paid just $1,000 more for the car than what I'd agreed to. Geez... I'm going to get him on the owner satisfaction survey.

Anyway, I thought I'd post this in case there are lurkers out there thinking about buying. Act fast, the year is almost over.

Thats when you tell them that you agreed on the price and you want to finance it at 0%. You cant let them get way with charging you a grand to get 0% intrest. I probably would have walked out at that point.

I just bought mine. The dealer screwed up and brought me one with the 6-disk player and car alarm and I didn't even ask for it. We had already agreed on a price so I was kinda happy. The day I got, we put 320 some mile on it on a trip to see my family. It drove so tight round the passes between Idaho and Montana.

I wish it had more power, but I will be trying to fix that in the near future.

Hope you enjoy your car.

Glad to know that you got a smooth transaction..

I went into the dealer last Saturday and spent 3 hours there...and got nothing.. The financing guy said I am not qualified 0% APR while the internet sales told me I am ok with that..
Anyway, will post what happened later...still try to get one before end of this year

congrats..

Spankee, for starters....Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. (stash)

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!! (stash)

you did good.....you got the car for $16.1K out the door....that is a good price.....and glad you didn't get suckered into giving them any more money just to get 0% financing....cause that is BS....that finance manager was trying to jerk you around....hope you eat his lunch on the survey.

Hi BSN_mt,
Congrats on the CD/alarm. Cool... I believe 0% wasn't available on the MP5 because it's reasonably popular. I doubt I could have gotten 0% for free, though I might have gotten them down from the extra $1000 they wanted for it. It doesn't really matter to me. I had the money saved up from driving my '89 Celica all those years.

pickupjason,
If you have to have that car, then keep trying right up till year-end. But if you don't need a new car, don't buy one. New cars are not good investments. If you absolutely need a new[er] car, then look at used ones. You get your best deals on two-year old cars with reasonable mileage after someone else (like me) has taken the depreciation hit. I would have kept driving my old clunker were it not dangerous to do so. (I would have bought a used hatchback/sport wagon but they're just now coming back into style and there is not really any used ones out there that fit my needs.) And you know, with my old car I kinda' liked the fact that nobody tried anything with me on the road because they knew I didn't care about my ride. Now I'm the one that has to worry about other cars... Hope this helps. Merry Xmas! -s

Thanks ..

First of all..the 0% APR incentive did apply on Protege5... there's also other incentives like 500 dollar cash back from Mazda to customer... not dealer
But it's a "either or"..you could either get 0% or 500 dollar off for the price..

It really sucks that I finally went into the dealer and worked with the internet sales manager. He checked my credit and said I am qualified...then said the finance guy worked for another 2 hours then tell me my rate is 7.xx% which makes me have a monthly payment for 450+ bucks or something. I just said " no deal" then left..

But still have some questions in mind, at beginning, one guy asked me how much money I would like put as down pay..I said "around 2K"...then he told me "your down payment is 2000.64, and your monthly payment is 288.xx"... The selling price of the car is around 173xx. How come my monthly payment is so high? the ad said every 1000 bucks borrowed is 16.67 per month. But it seems to me it's not the case...
Can anyone tell me why?

Best

Welcome

Where in Dallas do you live? I live closer to the Town North Dealer, but got my P5 at Big Billy Barrett because thats where my paretns got their 626.... My friends dad sells cars up at Town North.. last name is Burns.. just thought id share that... I dont suppose your around my age.. It would be cool to meet with a few more P5 owners in my area in their teens...

You said you heard about the P5 a week before you bought yours? I heard about P5's the day before I bought mine.. I saw the Ad, and test drove the same day and was about to buy, they said to come back tomarro because the finance dept closed or something...

they offered 1500 off or 0% financing. my parents decided to finance it for 5 years @ 0% since they weren't expecting to buy another car. my dad just bought himself a new toy(BMW 530i) and my brother has a 2k1 civic.

They didn't have 0% financing for mp5's when I got mine. The finance manager said they did, but I saw the ad and it clearly said not valid on protege 5, they didn't know what they were talking about.

I paid $16,200 for mine with the following options:

Tape player, alarm, wheels locks, cargo net, floor mats.

Black ext, 5 speed, no leather:(

I put $4,000 down, and financed the rest for 48 months @ 0% apr:)

Sales tax here is only 3% when you buy a car.

My payment is $269.73 per month.

We pay around $322 a month for 60 month at 0% for our 2003. My wife wanted the extended warranty though and we pay zero down. We got the college discount for $400 though. Pricing the car on Mazdausa gives $19655 for with all of the add ons.

I am pretty happy with the dealer. We went in one day and test drove one on the lot. The sale guy was a morron. Didn't even know what hp it had. Then we emailed back a coupe of days what we wanted and that they needed to give a price. They wrote us back, and it was OK so we went back in, told them to find one with what we wanted and we would buy it. No hassle or pressure (Can really pressure when we can block there emails).

Hi GXL, was that $16,200 before paying tax, title, & license or total price including TT&L?

$16,200 plus 3% sales tax, $247.50 dealer fee (BS) and $16.00 for transfering the tag from my other car - that's all.

Financed amount (if my memory serves me well) was $12,970 out the door including my $4,000 down payment.

Did I pay too much?

No, you didn't pay too much. I was afraid that you'd gotten the car and your extras at an out-the-door price of $16,200. That would have been a realllly good deal and if you'd gotten that price, I would have felt a little bad. ;) Thanks!

All I can say is "AAA" folks. I called them to get a quote on the car. They set me up with the fleet manager of a local Mazda dealer. I paid dealer cost + $300 no hassles, found exactly what I wanted in 15 minutes. Closed the deal on a Friday. I got leather, 6CD changer, wheel locks and I love it!

I pay $289 a month...AAA financed w/ $2,000 down

I got mine just today..
got it from 1000 under invoice, includes 500 cash rebate to customer and 500 graduate rebate. Got finance from my sister..:P
for me, it's a "ok" deal..not really a good one.. But they kept telling me that I "stole" that car..

I got a silver one, 5sp, abs sidairbag, moonroof, bumper guard, cargo tray, wheel lock. But now I have chrome wheels without wheel lock...because the dealer exchanged the chrome wheel from other car..and they promised me to swap it back but the service dept closed at 12....:( I have to go back to the dealer to swap a set of regular one...and wheel lock. Furthermore, there's some "glue" on the car, they did not clean totally...

furthermore, I should get a set of plastic cover for the roof rack. I mean if I remove the roof rack, there should be some thing to put on the rail and it should come with the car, right?

Anyway, finally got the car, feel very happy and believe I made good decision...LOL

Yes, there should be covers included with the car. Mine were in the "trunk" of the car when I drove it off the lot.

Hey, I'm up in Dallas too... I bought mine about a month ago.. I went up to town north, but ended picking up a used one instead...

I don't know ifthey're still offering it, but they were doing 3,000 of of all the 2002's left on the lot. 17,055 - 3000 = $14,055. That's what I was oing to do, but decided I liked $11 better for one with a couple miles on it,..

Welcome to the board. Cool little cars ain't they?

rx7gslse,
Funny, when I was there they said they could only give $500 more off of the 02's than the 03's, which I found hard to believe. I guess I was right to be skeptical, judging from the link you included. Anyway, since the '03 had a year longer warranty (4 years vs. 3) and was a newer car, I went with the '03. A used one would have been fine by me too. You probably don't have to pay anything near the TT&L as with a new car. Who was your salesman? Mine was "Willy" or something like that.

pickupjason,
Congrats, BTW. Hope you like it!
