Price of MSProtog

Texas... aint nutin but steers and queers der. Needer a dem likes fancy cars lik dat.

true

You may think you are kidding but I live in a reality where the above sentiment is true.

99% of the people I pass every day are driving big-ass SUVs and gabbing on cell phones. It makes me want to puke.

Even overheard a conversation at work today between a couple of guys younger than I am who were complaining about the outrageous styling of some small cars. And yes, they own SUVs. And no, I have not told them about my car. I'm betting they would harm it just because it's different.

I absolutely love the Texas hill country but some of these people out here are so narrow-minded...

Maybe that's why the Austin area Mazda dealers still have plenty of MSPs on their lots...

Someone please come out here and buy these poor, neglected cars. They need a good home!

My guess is they'll end up selling them to California dealers so they can then rip us off. Ill wait until December, they are for sure going to want to get rid of them to make room for the 3's.

Dealer invoice price in Canada is $25,194 and MSRP is $26,995. These are prices for the 2003, not the 2003.5. So I would expect them to be a little higher. These prices also do not include freight and PDI.

Actually, I was at the dealer yesterday and they didn't even budge from MSRP! Not one penny. I gave them two offers and both times they came back with the MSRP price as the only price they could sell at! Needless to say I just walked. But I think my offer was a little low too. There not a lot to work with with those prices.

The search contiues.

nope, the 4 dealerships in the Austin, TX area are all part of Roger Beasley. According to my salesperson, Jack Hughes, they make their money by selling what Mazda isn't moving (like old models) and get a kickback from Mazda. The Managing Partner of the dealership seemed a bit disappointed about how slowly the Mazdaspeed Proteges are selling when I talked to him last week. They are sitting on his lots for 6 months - a VERY long time for a dealer to have to pay for a car.

I'm betting they aren't selling as well as expected here because the economy has tanked - especially for the kids this vehicle is aimed at. I also think Mazda has done a CRAPPY job marketing this. The buzz about the car barely started and seems to be totally dead now. Only real enthusiasts are interested in the car.

hey Stormtrooper77 - come down here and buy one!

I bought mine from Patrick at Roger Beasley in Austin for 15,995. At first I actually was not impressed by the looks of the car, but my wife convinced me to go drive it. I responded, " I will but, I really want a GT mustang and that things only got 170hp compared to the stangs 260" Anyway I went and drove the thing, and the rest is history!

One of my buddies has an eclipse turbo with basic mods. When he saw my car, He said :kool:, But few days ago he decided to go to test drive one cuz I kept telling how much I luv the car. He did and told me the next day that it was one freakin fast car! HE actually could not belive the thing had only 170hp. BTW he also drove a mustang and mentioned that he was unimpressed with the highway accel of the must compared to his eclipse and especially the MSP.

How far have people been able to go under sticker price?

I am going to try and make a deal Monday on one. I spent Saturday looking and driving one. They are pretty nice. For sure the best handling car you can get for the price.

Right now the dealer has it marked down 1500 below sticker + the 2000 cash back.

I wanted to try and get 2500 under sticker from the dealer. The dealer doesn't pay for the 2000 cash back, Mazda does. I know they try and play on this, but the 2000 has nothing to do with the dealer at all.

Also, we should be able to throw in an extra 500 student graduation cash back.

Is this possible? It is October and I know that dealer wants to unload it. I hope it works out. I am going to be making a offer on the silver one in the show room floor that has 12 miles on it.

As far as the $500 cash back, that's not up front. I spoke to Mazda USA about this as I'm in grad school right now. At least for me, the deal is that I have to present them with a letter from the school indicating that I'm a student and currently working towards a degree. That letter + some form you fill out are sent to Mazda and then they cut you a check for 500 smackeroos. I think if you just recently graduated you have to present a copy of your diploma or transcript or something. Expect the check in 6 - 8 weeks said the nice lady. Oh yeah..and that deal is only good for 1 year from the purchase date of the car, so don't forget to do it.

BTW, I got mine on 10/7 from Josh at Roger Beasely North on Burnet in Austin. Good guy to work with.
