one of my neibors came up to me and talked to me about my car and he knows someone that works at mazda and they are selling all of their press mp3's... there are supposidly 2 blue and 1 yellow for sale... i think you need connections though... hes getting a blue one with 10,000 miles on it for 10 grand .... thats a damn good deal... but i just thought i would tell you guys....

Well that means all the "MP3 beats Ferrari" stories are written, I guess!

The press fleet of MP3 must be beat at this point. Imagine letting those ink-stained auto nuts behind the wheel from day one! I'm sure that they need some TLC and a set of tires!

We seem to be pretty able to beat the hell out of our cars and we OWN them!

well the press cars they build a little tougher to handle all the beating they take... i personally helped build one for dodge a year ago when i worked at an engineering company.... on some parts they replace before they sell them too... its not like they sell them with harldy any life left on them...

I would think that if mazda was going to sell the press cars....they would NOT want them falling apart....that would just be a lot of bad press for them...I am sure they go through them pretty well before they sell them. that would only make good sence. :D

As read this thread, yes that is all I can think of...And yes, boredom sets in even faster on my nights off...

I was just curious about this...what sort of things did you do to build up the car exactly? I guess I'm just confused as to what they would be able to replace to toughen it up...are we talking different parts entirely that are perhaps made from tougher materials etc?

And wouldn't that be a misrepresentation of what the actual car is like? I could see them replacing some parts before selling it(brake pads, maybe shocks/other wearables), but strengthening a car doesn't seem quite right.
At 10k it would still have remainder of the factory warranty.

I also would consider it a lack of faith on Mazda's part. To strengthen and change the car for reviewers is not really having them review the factory car anymore. Hell, I doubt that the people in those magazines do any more to their cars than the people in autoX do to their MP3s anyhow.

I would have to agree with you on that BigBlue. I can't imagine them torturing it anymore than I already do! I would think that the press would have picked up on the fact that they did some upgrading and cry foul. Of course, this may explain why grassroots motorsports had a different brand of tire on the one they tested.

well i did the 2003 dodge ram 2 years ago and i did the center arm rest and bucket thing..... i know that thing inside and out and all the tolerances.. i worked on it for 6 months.... we would "secretly" strengthen some parts that we knew would take a beating... like the latch we bondoed it a little... and keep in mind these cars were pre production so nothing was final...

WOW, that's really not cool of Dodge to do that. If a car's a POS then they should go back to the drawing board on it. In light of this, does that mean if something breaks or sucks on a car in a magazine test that means it must REALLY SUCK!

I remember seeing a test of the first KIA that was being sold over here on a morning news show. The door handles, inside and out, fell off in the guys hand when he tried to open the door! Then the window handle broke. And the thing drove like crap. It was really comical.

well you have to remember that these cars arent production cars... a lot of the parts are in the prototype stages... such as the part i worked on ... they didnt even have the production mold finished yet... it was from a mold that was solid carbon other than the conventional aluminum or steel mold....
