power loss/loud sucking noise... help???

I highly doubt it, they are trash and prone to failure. Almost everyone I have talked to with a MSP has had the WGA go bad.

Good to know. When I called carmax they didnt even know what a WGA was lol they asked what part of the engine it was. After telling them it had to do with the turbo they were like "Oh yeah none of our mechanics have experience with turbos" lol so i had to call the mazda dealer... have an appointment on Tuesday.

Rick are you ever going to listen to me and do a Boost leak test?
Why are you gonna spend 100+ dollars and get a BPV when the issues you are having are most like a boost leak compared to anything else.

I did what you said and my pipes are fine I tired of trying to find the problem
I am going to bring my car to a highperformance shop to they can deal with
it...

ok... ordered the 6psi ATP WGA, now just waiting on it to get here, hopefully by tuesday. Then i have to get it installed, make sure nothing else is wrong with the car by the following tuesday at which time i will be driving from San Diego, Ca to Cocoa Beach Fl for a few days and then up to New Jersey. God i hope this works!

God bless you I give up mine is going to a shop...

got the new WGA in yesterday and the car is runing a lot better. The vac is right around 20 at idle and boost is holding at just over 6psi with no spikes. There is still the loud sucking noise which i was told is the air filter but i dont think it is since that noise started at exactly the same time as everything else. The power loss i 99% gone. I still think the car isnt at is full potential but i will have to wait to get that checked out since i will be driving cross country next week in it. hopefully the car makes it with out any issues.

Get a friend to rev the motor and stick your hand around the intercooler pipes and such and feel for air leaks. There's prbbly a leak where the bpv goes into the intercooler pipe.

i really dont think im at 100 % and the sucking noise was not there when the intake was first installed, just started when the wastegate crapped out so i know its not the normal sound of the intake and it only happens while in boost. i already have checked for leaks on the IC pipes and didnt find any leaks...

ok so after the WGA was installed it seemed to be running a little better but now is back to running like s***. My vac is still at 20 and boost is holding at 6-7psi so i know the wga didnt go again and am totally out of ideas of what could be wrong. anyone else who was having a similar problem figure out what it was?????

[for your first post] i have had a very simular problem but it was with a car that did not have a turbo, so there was no power loss. But i really think it could be your intake mani gasket! and with a turbo it would cause i boost leak and would result in power loss. i experianced no idle - i had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it alive when coming to a stop!

hope the best in finding the problem

hope this isnt too late but...find a shop with a smoke machine. Works WONDERS in finding vacuum leaks. s*** if ur crafty you could make one yourself. All it does is force smoke into to brake booster line and if u have a leak...WA-LA!

I need to find a boost leak also...I'll be reading up on this thread today. When I get to about 4psi my car feels like I hit the brakes. Arg...I might need to replace the coupler that connects the cold pipe to the intake mani.

I think i have a boost leak as well... when im really getting on it my boost jumps up to 10psi but it doesnt have the power it should. It almost feels like when my clutch went out on my eagle talon but the clutch in my MSP feels strong still.

Yep...when I first got the turbo kit put on it still felt N/A, except the whoosh sound from the turbo and the bov. But about 3 days later I made the mistake in taking off before it warmed up and good lawd it surprised me...spiked at around 9psi and felt great. But as the motor warmed up the boost leak got worse. I have a custom fmic on the car and hard pipes and I think I'm gonna change most of the couplers to see if it's one of those, then check the intake mani for cracks.

Ok, got another question...could I be having a boost problem because of my set-up? I have the maf located right behind the filter...

The car also backfires alot, and someone said that due to that I might be running rich...should the maf sit between the intake manifold and the bov? I am clueless.

That shouldn't change anything... where is your Intake Air Temp sensor? Do you have a boost gauge? Vac at idle? If you have access to an aircompressor you can make a "vac boost leak tester" pretty easily. Have you blown in your wastegate actuator vac line to see if it holds good pressure?

Something like this and a regulator to run low pressure then spray with soapy water. Fist I do my intercooler piping with the piping plugged with a pvc endcap right where it mated to the turbo and the other end at the TB with the pvc endcap with the valve. Then I do the air valve connected to the TB to check the IM. Although it will leak since there will always be valves opened it's still good enough to spray for leaks.

You can also get a mechanics stethescope to listen around a little better.

Got a boost gauge...usually the leak happens when the motor is nice and warm and when I hit about 3-4psi. I'll have to look to see where my air temp sensor is, I'm new to the turbo stuff.

If i can pull air through my WGA by a vacuum does that mean its bad? If I blow in it it doesnt seem to pas any air but when I suck on it it wont hold a vac at all. I dont understand because I am running 20-22 inches of vacuum but have the same 4-5 psi problem and idle drop stalling issue. I am going to do a pressure test this weekend. The BPV is definitely good.
