Power lift gate?

I'd like to have a power lift gate on my 2016 CX-5. That's the only feature this car is missing, in my opinion. Does anyone know if it's possible to get an aftermarket installation of this? Thanks....

I doubt there are any out there. That would probably be a major project to retrofit and as it stands highly custom... not what you probably want to hear but maybe something they will add in '17 or '18.

Parts from the Ford Escape may transfer over - the vehicles are very similar. Probably quite a lot of work.

The newer Toyotas (Rav4 and Highlander) run what look to be hydraulic struts. Looks like these struts have power going to them, and I can only assume that there is some sort of pump inside or maybe even a screw or worm gear that allow for the opening and closing of the hatch. They aren't incredible large, so there is a possibility that they could fit in place of a standard gas strut. Older cars would use the standard gas struts and a third arm that would open and close the hatch.

The other tricky part would be handling how the rear latch activates. At least on the CX-5 there is already an electric release (via the rear switch/handle) which could be wired into. The only issue would be the logic and timing between releasing the rear lock and the struts to activate.

Thanks...interesting thoughts. Maybe it can't happen. The car is excellent in many other ways....

I did some research, there are a number of ways other cars do it.
Powered struts Either electric or hydraulic
Powered hinges.
Torque tube and push pull rod.

Of these, replacing a strut or struts with a powered electric strut seems most likely to work.
Here is a commercial custom shop that will do it.

If you DIY it you would need to measure the stock strut open and closed, and then shop the junk yards or dealers until you find what car has powered struts about the same length. Then you need to fit it, and rig switches for open and closed. (There is already a door ajar switch for closed.

You could build hardware to use a aftermarket actuator like this
