Pornography in this forum

This will be quick, so please read it all and think for a few minutes before blurting out a hasty response.

I wanted to take a moment to express my frustration with the soft porn rampant in the forum. This has been addressed before, but it always deserves a moment of thought, I think. Many of us access this page in environments where erotic images are simply not acceptable. For some of us, that's at home, where children and wives just don't need to see it. For others of us, that's work, where an employer who may not mind the website itself might definitely object to some of its content.

I am in both camps - I don't need to access a car forum at home and see soft porn, and I don't want to access a car forum at work and see it. It just isn't appropriate, friends.

I've been happily married for five years now, and have sex quite often. I see a naked woman every day. But I don't feel like a car forum is the place to express that part of my life. I'm all for the first amendment right of free speech, and love the idea of self-expression. But please, for the sake of discretion and respect, choose a better forum for soft porn, because I don't think a car forum is the place for it.

Think for a moment... is a wiggling ass in your avatar or signature really the best expression of your automotive ideals? I'm sure there is a better way.

I'd appreciate intelligent comments, but if you can't think of one (and the pages on this forum are proof that many of us can't always do so), respond with an unintelligent comment. Society benefits best when everybody contributes.

This has been discussed before. If you have a particular issue with a certain person, report them to a moderator.. If its everyone, turn off youur signature and avatar options in your control panel. Simple as that.

That was the conclusion drawn the serveral times this has been brought up in the past.

Cars and import models (women) go together like penut butter and jelly. Unfortunately for some, thats now a valuable part of the car indusrty. It would be hard to impliment something permitting that on the forums.

Maybe I wasn't clear. I have no interest in censorship, and do not want any sort of intermediary to lay down a policy that requires us all to live by any one of our individual standards. That doesn't and shouldn't work.

My interest is for all users to choose a better way to express themselves in a car forum. Choice is key. The choice to turn off avatars and sigs is an option, of course, but it prevents people who do so from enjoying the hard work that so many have put into their auto-derived avatars and signatures.

It's quite possible that we all need to live at the level of the lowest common denominator of society. Marketing departments ***** their products and services that way, and that's why some believe that cars and women go together. I happen to agree. What I disagree with is soft porn on a car forum - since we're by and large not advertising with sex, why would we come to a car forum to see porn? Wouldn't it be far more effective to head to a porn site?

My response to this is that you shouldnt be viewing this web site from work, unless you are a AV who sells something on here or work in a car customizing shop. I doubt your company pays you to surf car web sites. So that solves that part of your problem.

As for the other part, viewing this from home, what you have to remember is that most of the people viewing this site are young men, 16-25 maybe. What do you think is on their minds most of the time? If this site offends you, then maybe you should start one of your own, where you ban all nudity and sex talk. See, this is the free country of America, and that means that if you dont like something, you change it. In this case, that means you create the utopia that you dream about somewhere else, because this isnt going to be it.

I hate to be so harsh, but I get tired of the minority (people who dont like sex - which you are certainly a member of here) trying to dictate what the majority does. Most people here apparently dont mind the nudity and cuss words, sex talk, etc here. As a matter of fact, I wish there was more nudity, sex talk, cuss words. but hey thats just me, and maybe I am in the minority. I guess we will find out soon enough.

Thanks for the comments, scorch, but again... I HAVE NO INTEREST IN CENSORSHIP. I simply would prefer that people choose to step up to a higher and better standard. Keep the porn threads here, keep the hot girl threads, but keep them in the off topic area, not everywhere.

I think what zmzmzm is trying to say is that, maybe, some people are being a bit too .. emphatic with signatures and avatars. Sure, we're all human, and part of being human is lovin' sex and the opposite gender. But maybe -- and excuse me if I'm misinterpreting this, zmzmzm -- he's not bringing up a matter of censorship, but of respect?

If that's the case, then I understand what he's saying completely. It's not just a matter of where you're accessing the site from, be it work or home -- it's a matter of thinking that maybe not everyone will like to see a wiggling tush when they go to view a website. And I understand that there is the option to turn Avatars and Signatures off .. but some of Avatars and Signatures on here are amazing to look at, with great Photochopping work and photography. Is it fair to those that turn off the sig/avatar option to miss out on the well-crafted artwork just because of a few people who like to flaunt soft porn?

I'm not leaning one way or the other on this issue. While I do find a few avatars and sigs on this forum moderately inappropriate, it's nothing I personally can't learn to ignore. But I do think that it's a matter of having respect for fellow forum members that view this site who may not appreciate such imagery. Just my opinion.

Come on people, lets not all go PC here. If you like nekkid women, then say you like nekkid women. I live in the bible thumping south, and I like to look at nekkid women. And I think most guys here do too (heck, even some of the women here do). If you disagree, go look at the thread right now

Over 6000 posts and 400000 views. Now I know I have contributed a lot of views to that thread, but I dont think I am the only one.

There is nothing wrong with this forum. They are really more strict than others I have been to. Please dont get all gestapo on us, moderators. If people dont want to see the avatars, they can turn them off.

I don't think scorch understands, however. Scorch, did you read the part where I pointed out that I have NO interest in censorship? This is an issue of common decency, not of the gestapo. And by the way, I don't think an organization of secret police intended to enforce Hitler's ideas of genocide really has anything to do with our current discussion about respect and decency in a public forum.
