Poor Idle, engine light, stalling.

I am not sure what is wrong so I will throw this out there. My car has nothing but exhaust work after the origioanl cats and an Injen CAI.

Right now it idles at about 500-700 and will drop down for half a second and come back up two or three times every miinute or so if I am sitting still. Sometimes when turining or just straight driving it will stall. The stall is strange. It only stalls out when I gas up to rpms of 3500 or higher then shift out directly inot neutral instead of going into the next gear. The engine light comes on most the time too.

I have been told this is a vacum leak but I think its something else. I have looked and listened and so have others trying to find the leak. Cant hear it or find it.

Please I have been a loyal member and need help. The dealer will not work on the problem, is blaming it on the CAI. Corksport ensures me that it is not the CAI. PLease anything you think it could be or similar problems I would love to hear. I will be checking back radomly.

Thanks everybody.

Check to make sure there are no leaks from the by pass valve going to the injen cai. It sounds to me like there is a leak around there and your bpv is venting into the air rather than recirculating.

definately check the vacuum line that runs to the BPV. my car had that problem too. that's what causes the rough idling and stalling.

I am sure that it is the EGR. I have been battling this for 20,000 miles. My car got to the point over the past month that it would stall out every time you put in the clutch and let the rpms fall back to idle. Following the factory service manuals (something the dealer cannot do apparently) I tapped on the top of the EGR when the car was running with a heavy plastic screwdriver handle and the problem went away. The car runs so rich, that the EGR gets all gummed up and then gets stuck open, hence the vacuum leak. You will notice a loss of Vacuum from 20mmhg to about 17mmhg if you have a boost/vac gauge. I imagine mine will get bad again, but at least I know what the problem is now. The part is on backorder still.

Get some silicon vacuum hoses. I have them and their great.

Second, go buy some SS hose clamps from the hardware store and use them instead of those crummy clamps that are on there now.

The rubber hoses will get dry and crack over time. The silicon hoses are more dependable.

Also check the connections to the MAF. A bad or leaking MAF could definately be the cause. I would check the BPV first.

yea, mine does that every once in a while, the loss of power steering when im driving scares me... and what if it happend when i was turning into something and my car stalls out with oncoming traffic? geez..

A vacuum leak would cause a more rythmic problem, it would cycle back and forth continuously. It sounds more of an EGR ob BOV problem like has been suggested. A temporary fix is to bring up the idle a little, but the ECU will learn around thatl

Having the same problem. Does anyone have pics of the EGR valve?

I've been battling this very same issue. Pardon my ignorance, but what/where exactly IS the EGR?
