Mazda Protege LX 03'
Well i am buying a intake manifold to P&P so seeing as how i am going to have it and not worry about my car being down while i am working on it. I have a question to ask. I was wondering have any of you attempted or have polished the outside of the IM. Let me know what you guess think about This.

Yeah i planned on getting out my air powered tools for that. I was just wondering if anyone had actully attempted it or not. Cause i havn't seen it yet, MAYBE IM THE FIRST!!!(breakn)

Yeah, you'd probably be the first to do it on a protege. I say go for it and post plenty of pics. (thumb)

You wouldn't be the first...Brian MP5T has done it, I'm sure a couple of others have as well. Can't find a good pic for you but he spent hours with his polish wheel to do it...

Thought he did it on his 944, did he polish the Protege IM too?

Either way i will loose many hours of my life doing this, but it will be worth it in the end

The time spent on the P&P job and buying a seperate IM in itself is not worth it in the end on a N/A motor. And the polished IM will look out of place without a polished valve cover and a few other things.

i couldnt agree more, its a total waste of time, it wasnt even worth it on my msp! The gains are barely noticeable at all. That install is the worst by far of any on the car as well. Keep in mind i've done both my s-pipe and rear motor mount.

And you say you didn't feel any noticeable gains running boost, with the N/A motor you want velocity not volume... understand?

Yeah, it seems to be a two sided disagreement. Some people swear by this mod and claim they feel the difference, then again you have what your saying, which is i am wasteing my time. I guess i won't know untill i do it. One it is something like this in my head its hard to take anyones word but you own. So i'll let you guys know when i get done what i thought. Either its going to be about a month until i get it done.

I felt a noticable top end improvement. The pain/gain equation makes this one of the 'last' mods (right before cams and Haltech)... It was mostly labor (i work free) and not much cost to me for a already P&Ped intake. I had to remove to get to rear mount anyway...

Conversely, if you paid a mechanic - it would not be 'worth it'. Cost/gain doesn't make it.

It can be a 'good' mod. Depends.

I am doing all the work, and i have to change my motor mount so i thought i would just do it all at once.

Yeah i am fully removing the vtcs and porting and polished the IM, hoping to get a little more power of this motor. I am just waiting on it to get here, so i can get started.
