Points #3 - Registration Open

As somebody who's recently gone through it, I can tell you that it's a big help going through the novice meetings your first couple of times out. They will help explain what's going on and how work assignments work, and just general safety stuff that's obviously very important in this type of activity.
Chris, this is a great point I didn't mention. It is crucial to learn the porper way to work on course, otherwise you are going to possibly: piss many people off, delay the event for a disclosed amount of time, seriously injure yourself or somebody else.

It's also worthwhile to note that if you're already registered and it's too big of a hassle to switch your registration, nobody's going to mind if you attend the Novice meeting anyway. The only difference will be that you won't have novice numbers on your car, so you may not have somebody coming up and offering to ride along and give pointers. Definitely do not go on course for the first time without an experienced driver in the car with you! I can almost guarantee you'll get lost and DNF, and quite possibly look like an asshole in the process.

Yeah I am already registered but I'll try and attend the novice meeting and I'll have someone ride with me. if none of you mind ^.^

You'll probably want somebody that knows what they're talking about, so your options here are pretty limited.
(peep)

lol. Chris said he'd probably come (Prodigy), he said he waould'nt be racing htough. Do you think he'd be a good course guide?

Hey it was real easy, but online I just changed TO2 to N2. So I'm running novice now. Still registered with the same number and everything.

thats good news. Chris is becoming a great autoxer, but he still has a little trouble seeing the course from time to time. i remember the first time I went out and he was no where in the ball park of the course, but in his defense that was probably the hardest course ever for the ARSCCA, I think I should remove myself from the list of guides as well, where as I see the course great i am not very fast, so I need to work on my techniques, but I do see the course well, hardly have any cones under my belt, most of the ones I have hit where in one run in aMaffs Miata.

I was told when i first started auto-xing that if your not hitting cones your not running close enough to them.

as for people to help you i bet brian would be more than willing to help you out. Otherwise chris can help you, kevin is more than knowledgable. i can be a little help and there is always the people you meet at the auto-x

I hit them, just not as many as some others, you don't hit many cones either, so does that mean you aren't getting close enough? that wasn't really the point of the story, just vision of the course

i know it wasnt the point just relaying some words of wisdom told to me...and me not hitting cones? have you seen my front bumper besides the railroad tie incident most of the scratches are from cones

Haha, JA left 3 cone shadows all lined up in a row on the front bumper at the last event. I'm gonna try to wash the car before this weekend, but I'll leave those as trophies for her ;).

I can't wait til this weekend. It's time to layeth down the smack!

I'm pretty excited for the novice school. Craploads of seat time ftw! Someone on soloatlanta said last year they got over 20 runs each.

Poor miata :( lol

I wish I had the tires to register. I'm second guessing my lack of attendance (I'm sure JA will agree). Seat time = good.

Yeah, I'm wondering about tires too. I think 20 runs would do quite a job on the all-seasons. The R-comps might have to go on a bit sooner than I was planning.

i would definitely say walk the course because my first time out, i didn't walk it, and when i got out there i did fine, and im pretty sure no one picked up on it because i didn't hit a cone or go on the wrong side of a cone, and i have luke and scott to thank for that because at the last minute i asked about the meanin of a cone being laid down. i think chris's(prodigy) g/f or one of chris's friends that's a girl went with me, but after the first time around it was really easy to follow. also, i've yet to hit a cone, and i've been out 5 times(once in ga, 3 times in s. car, and once in florida).

They'll walk you through the course as part of the novice meeting. I'd also recommend getting there early and riding with somebody in the morning sessions, too. If one of us is running in the morning, I'm sure we'd be happy to give you a ride. It's much different at speed.

i'm going to start asking for sundays off so i can come to these events, i'll just say i'm going to be participating in a defensive driving course

Hey anybody gonig to bring a video camera? Is it too huge of a favor to ask to tape my first run? (The blue Rx-7 in signature and the only Rx-7 registered that day) and send it to me?

the only person i know of with a vid cam is scott and i am not sure he is going tomorow but he will responed here before the auto-x tomorow
