PLS HELP: Notchy Transmission

So last night I was driving my P5 around and no problems at all. When I go to work this morning, I start my car up. It won't shift into 1st, 2nd, 5th or reverse. It will go into 3rd and 4th. So I let it warm up finally it goes into gear. Then after driving to work and going out for lunch the transmission seem fine.

A few months ago I installed my ACT 6 puck clutch with no problems. When I add new transmission fluid (3us qts. by the manual) no fluid comes out of the check bolt hole. I had asked a couple people on the forum and they said they had the same issue. I didn't want to keep adding transmission fluid because I didn't want the oil to "foam up". Could it be the fluid I used??? I used what the manual spec'd. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Note: When I was driving the car last night I DID NOT drive it hard. I rarly do.

Was the car level when you added the gear oil? If you had only the front jacked up, that is why no oil came out of the check/add hole on the gearbox...

I switched to Redline last June and it started to come out of the hole before 3qts were in...It seemed like about 2.8 quarts were in the box before it started oozing a little...so if you put 3 full quarts in, the box is not under lubed, meaning the problem is not that there is not enough oil in there...

Also did you use the proper wieght oil? There is a whole slew of internal issues that can cuase this, and before I get into all of the things that could cuase it, let me know that you used the proper GL-4 (not GL-5) oil...

first... put in redline 75W90 tranny fluid
then consider the clutch fork upgrade that is from the MSP (see the faq for more info)
then bleed the clutch lines

and DO NOT slam the shifter in gear.. gently push it! you don't want to blow up that tranny!

Cool thanks... Yes the car was level when I added the tranny fluid. We put in a full 3qts. and nothing came out. It seems to be notchy when the car is cold. LIKE THIS MORNING!

I did add GL-4, it wasn't the best brand oil that was there. I don't know what I was thinking. Should I try Mobil One??? Or go straight to Redline??

Is the Redline GL-4 tranny fluid or the 75W90 that I look for??? I did bleed the line last weekend and a little air came out.

I am really thinking it is the oil. When I used to race Motocross and I didn't put the good oil in my tranny it would be notchy as hell.

You might want to check out the shock proof gear oil that redline has also, since you are boosted and have extra stress on the tranny.

i had to order mine. I dont have shock proof but i am gonna add some soon. I have mt-90

i went to www.redlineoil.com and found the closest dealer and they shipped it to me in 2 days. Sucks to pay shipping though. I also order a s*** load of 15w-50 and water wetter so i got free shipping(over 100$ )

Transaxles can be confusing becuase the fluid added lubricates both the gears AND the differential...GL-5 is used for a lot of high performance differentials, but it also has sulfur additives that are said to cause poor syncronizer operation and wear...As far as I know Mobil 1 does not make a GL-4 gear oil...also you need to be sure the oil is designed for a transaxle, not just a transmission or differential like most are...Redline MTL and MT-90 (pretty much the same, the MT-90 has the wieght and viscosity designed for your GM15M-R transaxles) are pretty much the best to go with in my experience, but I have never tried the stuff MP3 is talking about...

I am not sure about the OE lube...I just switched to MT-90 at the first change...read the manual and make sure the oil you choose satisfies all the requirements....

GREAT!! Thanks again for the info. I am sure I used the GL-5. I recall the manual saying GL-4 / GL-5. So I went with the GL-5. I am going to order the Redline fluid this week, For the time being I am going to go to the dealer and use the OE oil. I gotta change this stuff asap.

BUMP...
Ok...now I spent $40 on Amsoil 75w90 tranny fluid. I didn't have a chance to order the Redline. The tranny felt good up untill today. Now when I am driving...When I shift from 1st to 2nd it feels like I am pulling the car outta gear. I also have noticed the clutch is grabbing much higher. I did bleed the clutch so what can it be????

I hope this transmission isn't going bad. I don't even push the hard.

damn you installed a 6 puck on a street car? your crazy. any pucked clutch will grab harder.
