Mazda 3 I
My wife has a 2006 Mazda 3 I with 70,000 miles on it. When driving straight, turning, backward or anything, it has a constant click that changes speed with the speed of the wheels. It's not a "grind" like a wheel bearing, it's a click/ ticking sound. It only does it when coasting, as soon as I push the gas and put a load on, it stops completely. I thought maybe it was CV axle so i put a new one on and it didn't fix it or change it at all. It sounds like it is coming from the front driver's side wheel. Being that it is my wife's car, i'm a little concerned. Any ideas?

The clicking that you are refering to is it very loud or soft..

if its soft it mostlikely is the timing chain very noisy in our motors. and when i first got mine i thought i had valve problems for the longest till i finally found out it was the natural sound of our motors.. if u could explain more when in driving conditions.. i may be able to find the source of your problem.

The clicking sound started out very soft a few months ago, and has gradually gotten louder. It's still not EXTREMELY loud, but it is very noticable. It can't really be heard from outside when driving by, mostly can only be heard from inside the car. And again, it goes with the speed of the wheels, the click is very fast when the wheels are moving quickly, and slows as the wheels do. There's nothing in the wheel well rubbing or anything. Any help would be awesome!

Hey, i was just wondering if you ever found out what that noise was? I just had my cv joints looked at and they are all fine, but my car is still making a ticking noise when i take my foot off the accellerator and roll down hills, the mechanic said it was fine, and wait till its there all the time, but im just worried? it happens when my car is heated up.

Its a tick noise from your axles moving in your hubs ,when under load there is pressure on them. Dealer should have a spacer kit for it.

I was just dealing with a sound that sounds similar. My wife was quite concerned so I had someone look at it.

If it sounds like the same problem, it turned out to be coming from the caliper. There were some components, specifically the brake pads, that had been vibrating and transferring the vibrations through the body and chassis of the car. It wasn't warped rotors, the back of the pads were not lubed. The pad that wasn't attached to the piston, because it wasn't lubed, had gotten stuck to the caliper knuckle and started to notch its was into it. Anyway, we lubed the back of both pads, the area where the notches of the outside pad sit, and inside the hub area of the rotor. It has done the trick. I hope it helps.

I just started noticing a knocking/clicking sound that seems to be comming from the lower belt on the engine. My 3 has low miles (42k) but it sits alot in winter. I was hoping there is an easy solution to this annoying problem and hope it doesn't become something major. I have been very pleased with the low maintenance on this vehicle and get to dump more money in my toy (00 Jeep cherokee) at least until the 3's warranty is up, then I get to tinker.
Thanks in advance
