I had seen this in-dash monitor and I was wondering If it is a good deal or not? I want to be able to hook my PS2 up to it and have the sound going through my speakers. Is this possible?
I want to make sure that It has the capabilities to do this....any help given is much appreciated

Here is the monitor: 7'' in-dash monitor........(cheap)

And I am running it off of the Z828 HU........Thanks For any help!:)

ok.. it is possible.. but from what i saw of that in-dash your gonna need more than just the z828 and the screen...

it says that it has 2 video inputs... and that it comes w/ an RCA to S video cable for easy connections... now the video is no problem.. however the audio might be a bit more difficult.. now im no certified installer by any means.. but i did help wire my whole setup... so i know my share...

as far as i know the z828 doesnt have an aux. input... just CD/AM/FM (ive got the z919... and thats all its got)... if this is the case, you will need some other sort of receiver for the audio from the ps2..... probably something w/ atleast 2 audio inputs.. for the ps2 and the kenwood unit. you would then have to wire both units (ps2/kenwood) to that receiver which would in turn send the signal out to the speakers...

i hope that kinda made sense... and it may not be completely accurate, so if its not, someone correct me...

heres a quick overview of how my system is setup...

i have the alpine screen and kenwood head unit... the alpine has inputs for xm, nav, aux/video, as well as an FM/AM tuner... I had to use the aux input for the DVD player and PS2 (dvd has RCA jacks in the front, so i can take the ps2 into the car and just connect it, or take the ps2 out and take it into the house)... since there was only one aux unit, i have the kenwood unit running into the alpine through an FM Modulator.. and the alpine sends the signal out from there to my components and my amp powering my 2 12s

for those that dont know.. and FM Modulator basically turns the signal from my kenwood unit into a weak FM signal at whatever band you specify and transmits it within a short distance. Bascially, I put the alpine unit on 88.7 FM to listen to the kenwood unit.
now i know that this kind of diminishes quality of sound, but its ok, because my dvd player plays DVD, CD, CDR, CDRW, MP3 CD (just like the kenwood), and VCD... so if i want to listen to something i can just pop it into the DVD player... i just kinda wanted to keep the kenwood unit because its easier to load than the dvd and its the pimp head unit that came stock w/ the car :)

I thought because I had a tv source on the z828 HU I would be all set with the audio part?.....I dont know, I could be wrong.......
here lets check it: Kenwood Z828

Another thing is I'm not sure if this is a good quality screen - can anyone tell me if thsi screen has a good pixel count or if the images will even look good? It says it uses a panasonic screen....... here is the RESOLUTION 1480 (H) x 234 (V)

Thank for all the help!

hmmm... under AUDIO FEATURES it has listed "Independent Auxiliary Audio Input" which should be all you need :) like i said i wasnt sure if you had an aux input or not... cuz my z919 doesnt..... I think Imma like your setup better than mine when your finished ;)

Keep us updated if you get this scrren or not because I know that I for one would be interested if the quality is there. Hey for under $300 even if the quality is a little sub par still may not be a bad deal.

the only thing is... for $300 you could get two visor/headrest screens (not motorized, just the screen) and a dvd player... installation might be a bit more.. but you can have two screens in your visors for just about the same price... plus think of this.. you would have to pay for installation on that other screen too... just somethin to think about :)

really? what kind of visor monitors would they be? what size?

I might just go *buck* on this car video thing if it looks and sounds good too. The hardest part is picking out the product and the install. I just want everything to look clean cut - nothing beats a nice car that is CLEAN CUT........

Btw: I will keep everone posted on what I do, I DO plan on getting this video system put in and running - no matter what.

Thankyou Protege01MP3! you have been a big help and I'm sure I'll have some more questions soon, you seem to know your stuff.

Any other ideas?

to be completely honest i dont remember what brand the screens were.. i do remember they were about 6.5"... and they were pretty good quality (like i said.. cant remember all that much.. like brand, resolution, etc etc..) But, I'll tell ya what I can do.. I'll research it a little more for you and keep you posted... and honestly.. you shouldn't pay more than 100-200 per screen for some good quality screens... even at good guys/best buy/circuit city/al & eds/etc/etc/etc you may be able to get better discounts and better service at a smaller place... its usually more personal and they will work with you better if you find the right place... when i originally got mine done the guys SCREWED me bad... bad work, charged to much, etc etc... but that hasnt turned me away from the idea that smaller shops are better... the all around performance/accessories shop that i go to now (Xtreme Racing) is starting to do custom audio installs... they are rewiring everything for me and building my custom box in the trunk for FREE... i just gotta pay materials and take a few pics.. represent at shows.. etc etc so yah.. if you can hold out.. ill keep you posted on the screens... or browse around a little more on the net.. in my opinion.. the visor/headrest screens are better than the in dash... because more moving parts means more parts that are more expensive if they break... and they can be mounted anywhere w/ custom work... even in the dash above/below/exactly where the head units are mounted.. or in that open space above the glove box... almost anywhere... and they are cheaper because they arent screen/headunit and they arent motorized... all for all that is the best way to go.. but yah.. i'll keep you posted...

Ok sounds great! Thanks a million! - in the mean time If anyone else has any input it would be nice and much appreciated.

Hey, i was thinking about getting those indash screen too.
but price looked to cheap for such a nice screen.
cause it looks nice~ all I need is then some dvd player or good receiver?
i don't know, i'm kind lost here, but if i buy that screen to play ps2 in my car, for the sound , i have to use other receiver?
Thanks~

First - what are you running for a HU? The deck that you use will need a audio input or it may be possible to use a FM modulator to send the signal through a FM station - I'm pretty sure you can't use you factory HU.

i am running the 828 in my mp3 along with a ps2 and 2 headrest tvs..i have the audio coming out of my ps2 going into the inputs on the 828..and the video going to the tv...works great..plus my kid likes to watch tv in the back seat all the time

here are the tv's..and also you can use any headunit with an fm modulator..all a modulator does is plug into the antenna which all radios have...

That looks great - So was it pretty easy? I love the color coded framing on the monitors.........so you said that you had no problem running the sound from the ps2 into you z828 deck? great. I sent you a pm asking some other questions....
Thanks for your input (thumb)

Its VERY easy to hook up sound to the headunit..all you have to do is take out your glove box which takes like 3 seconds and you can reach your hand behind the headunit and grab a pair of RCA's thaat say "aux Input"...all of the RCA's are labeled..BE CAREFUL not to pull to hard..you will pull the RCA's right out of the back of the headunit..(which I did and made Mazda replace it...shhhhh) plug in the aidui..and change the source to tv/dvd/game..whatever icon you have selected (look in manual for the radio to see how to change the icon) and you are in..nothing better that playing Gran Tourismo with the subs pounding!:)

so you need to take rca's out of the HU and replug them in to where? Sorry, I'm a bit cofused.......

in the back of the headunit, there are several sets of rca's they are all labeled front out, back out, etc. look for the pair that says "aux input" they should be a red and white rca with black rubber caps on them to protect the rca...take off the caps and then once the playstation is in the car take the audio rca's from the playstation (red and white are audio left and right, yellow is the video) and plug them into the rca's on the back of the head-unit.

ok, and then the video will come from the monitor to the HU and the rest should just be power up - plug and play?

no... video doesnt go through the hu... video just plugs in from your PS2/DVD/VHS(lol)/XBOX/Whatever you hook up into the screens input... video never touches the head unit.. head unit is just for the audio.. its like if you had a TV and one of those little two speaker 3 cd changer am fm two tape deck aiwa steros.. you would plug your ps2 video into the yellow on the tv and the audio into the red and white in the stereo... same concept
