Please help me with my hail damaged PR5

er, sadly i can't drive a stick...plus im not keen on paying for a car shipment

he was pretty ok with it, said that he's been driving it and its fine, but he understands...my dad's pushing me to look at the chevy cobalts, which are on sale right now but of course...its the base model

man wish those mazda3's would go on sale, but i think their sales are pretty strong so there's no need to. just sucks, i drove a mazda3 hatch and it was pretty sweet.

is there anyway i can justify buying this protege5 still? i mean, he said he could have the dents taken off and a new hood put on and i'd still only sit at about $8800, probably more like $8500 because he said he'd take off some from the original price of the car. would you buy this car for $8500 with no dents and a new hood? it keeps looking better and better (keeping in mind there's nothing wrong with the car functionally, ill take it into mazda to be sure)

It was totalled by hail. I would not get it. Stick is easy, just takes time. You will like it better, too.

Don't waste your money on the glorified Cavelier. If you wan tto get one for 6 grand, wait a year. Their value drops a lot faster than Japanese cars. I have a chip against GM, as my GMC Sonoma was at the dealer over 20 times in the year and a half I owned it. 17 were for the same thing., Since it was Certified used, no lemon law. Never, ever, ever, owning a GM product again.

Check out www.carsdirect.com for deals on the 3's. Worked when I bought my P5. Dealer matched the price pretty much.

For the love of God, don't get the Cavelier. (blarf)

I'd back out of this one. It's got alot of false advertising. In the description it says it's a mazdaspeed turbo protege, manual trans. It's not even close. And all the damage. Lots of damage. It's gonna be alot of work to fix it.

Keep looking around, you will find one. Never settle for a base model american car. Now that you know what you want, you will just feel like s*** driving around that Cavelier wishing you had a P5...

Haha! Just reading all of your guys' posts and looking at not only the pictures on eBay but the ones in AceP5's threads I wouldn't buy the car unless the guy sold it to me for like $2000! The car isn't even worth that. AceP5 said that there was eletronics damage as well as everything would need to be replaced INCLUDING the unibody, which means that it was probably in an accident because hail can't bent a unibody unless it bent the pillars. Anyways, yeah, stay away from it unless he is going to give it to you for like $2000 since that is all the car is worth.

The carpet cover on the dash helps protect if from sun damage, or it could be hiding damage. With the extra cost of repairs, I also must say that I think it would be a bad purchase.

well he was driving down this weekend so he said $7.5 and i could have it. Missing lugs? I'll check on that, he was a nice guy and said yeah take it to hte Mazda dealership and have it checked out, if you don't like it I'll give you your deposit and drive it back home...:shrug: BTW, what would you call that black lining underneath the windows? You can see that it is cracked in the photos.

btw, how much would a new grill run me? this one is cracked from the hail apparently, i'll see it tomorrow...basically going to try and piece everything together and after PDR hopefully keep it close to $11,000 to feel good about myself.

He was nice to you so then you would buy his almost totaled p5 for the price you could get a used one for. Good selling for him, but for you, as long as you love the car it's all good

well i didnt do it...you guys convinced me. im looking at the regular proteges now (btw, had a chance to buy a not so bad hail damaged '05 mazda3 from a dealership for $12.7, but that was just out of my price range)
