Hey everyone! (wave)
any thoughts/opinions on the Planet Audio Neo 8" subs? They're old but unused, from before they went under and were re-born. I have an offer to buy a pair at $250cdn. I've seen them, they're very slim (only maybe 4" deep at most) and also quite light. I think the speaker cone is carbon fiber or something similar. Anyways, just wondering if the price sounds good.
Also, the guy quoted me a price for a sealed box at around $150cdn. good price?
AND... suggestions for amps? They're 125 watts rms I *think*.

thanks!

I started responding but then my entire office lost power....good thing I wasn't doing any real work :)

Anyway, you can get a pair of Image Dynamics ID8v3s for about $200 at www.sounddomain.com. Unless you absolutely need a shallow sub they are a better option. They can handle more power and I'm pretty sure they have a larger excursion (XMAX).

I know I can get other subs for cheaper, but what I'm wondering is whether or not this is a good price for these ones! Thanks though Chuyler :)

I can't find any info online about these subs...which doesn't look good. That means they are by no means worth $250.

From the name "NEO" I want to guess that they use neodymium magnets (normally found in tweeters). If so they would have a very small magnet structure, often times placed on the face of the woofer like a coaxial speaker. These were a short-lived fad in the mid to late 90s but none of the big names got on the band wagon. The only one I remember was Illusion Audio. The idea was that you could install a 12" or 15" in location with limited depth such as your spare tire well or a door.

you are correct! that's exactly why I want them.. smaller box, less space taken up in my trunk. I couldn't find anything on them either :(

Not necesserily a smaller box...just a smaller depth requirement. The ID subs work great in small enclosures and are only 4-3/4" deep.

I mean, a ported box for two would only be 1.2 cuft. That's the size of a single 12" sealed box. A sealed box for two would be as big as a single 10" sealed box. And you could even go as small as .2 cuft for each sub. That is tiny.

hmm.... you have yourself a point there! I think I need to do a little more research... thanks for the heads up though!!
