Alright, here is my situation. Didn't want to brave the downpipe install myself, so I entrusted it to a local tuning shop who shall remain nameless because they do fantastic work (especially with Evos) and I don't want them to get a bad rap.

It's 11:30am and I need to leave with my car in 30 minutes, but I am at my house. I need to leave very soon to go on a trip. They said it would be done by noon no problem when I dropped it off yesterday morning. Cut to the chase, what happened? With only 6,000 miles on the car, my primary O2 sensor's threads got jacked coming out of the factory downpipe. A new one from the dealer won't be in until Thursday and I've been calling every parts store I can find. Mind you, I am about to drive a thousand miles (Maryland -> Delaware -> beach -> Delaware -> New Jersey -> Maryland).

If anyone can help, PLEASE do. PM and I will send you my cell if you can do anything (aka have a sensor). I am really just here venting.....

Your nameless shop that is so great just screwed you. Many of the auto dealers do the same to their customers. Yes indeed the Mazda assembly worker(s) likely uses a power tool to install the O2 sensor and fails to lubricate the threads to prevent galling. The next removal requires just a bit of care and spray lube to prevent failing damage to the O2 sensor threads. I say "failing" because the damaged/rolled threads can be cleaned up with a thread file and the O2 sensor reused with no problems IF it isn't completely trashed on the removal... Remember to use hi-temp anti-seize on the threads. Maybe you should take a look at the removed sensor to see if it can be reused... If the threads aren't completely gone, you can run it until a new one can be sourced. It is an easy change on the new DP.

i agree but a place will not pay for that ...i work at a car dealer and as a parts man that isnt my fault ..nor is it the techs ....i feel for u ....but if its a tuner shop they should of taken there time and could of got that out with out damage
