Pionner Avic D3 Installed!

Nice photos.... I bet with that kicker in the back it sounds great.

Installer ended up rewiring the whole car, using the output from the HU itself and no amp... I was concerned about that and was ready to buy speakers and amp and he said not to, that the bose are actually actually good speakers, and the output from the Pioneer would be more than enough. He wired it up sort of temporarily so I could hear it before he buttoned it all up, and it sounded great. Definitely not as loud as yours I'm sure, but good clean loud. The output on the head unit is certainly powerful enough to drive the speakers and it sounds better than it did w/ the bose amp. My husband, the audio engineer :) played with the EQ and he was pretty pleased with it as well.

We did talk about amp and speakers and it may still be an option for the future, but I'm not willing to go with a kicker box (I cart teenagers around and need all the cargo space I can get)... I would certainly say that anyone happy with the sound of the bose system would be happy with the setup we went with because it sounds BETTER, much better... but anyone wanting boom boom down the road (which this nearly 40 woman doesn't need) might want to do it differently.

He ran into a little glitch tonight with the steering wheel controls but was going to research it tonight and wasn't at all concerned... he should be able to finish it up tomorrow... along with my bluetooth and mic.

I'll have photos of everything tomorrow.

ps. By the way... any idea how to set the clock up on the upper dash display WITHOUT the OEM radio? LOL

there will be a BOSE integration harness that you just plug in and it will work (thats like 90% if them) but he prob did it himself. im curious on how yours turned out.

as far as the subs, they are MTX. i was gonna go with kickers but i like how the mtx are made, and still bump while having great sound quality, AND i get to show off when i like. thats what 19yr olds do =].

and the clock, i didnt have to disconnect it, so it never reset. maybe with the bose, its' integrated?... i wouldnt know. You should ask the installer who did the job cuz he should be willing to fix that for you. it takes me about 5 minutes to fix my clock. that includes taking out the radio, plugging in the stock one, changing the time, and putting it back together.

if i was him, i would of kept the factory harness and tapped into the wires so if you wanted your stock radio back, he wouldn't have to rewire the whoooole thing again. plz post the pics!!!!!

Hey Chill,

My clock didn't reset either, but you know, there WILL be times the clock needs to be adjusted... like day light savings and such. Of course, I don't have to worry about that now until October. ;) -- The installer said there might be a way to adjust the clock without the stock radio, but he's not sure. Honestly, it's not a huge thing to me either way, and maybe, eventually, if/when a real dash kits comes out there will also be some kind of harness available for that upper dash display. Of course, NO ONE could get me to swap out my custom dash kit now, since it came out so awesome, but I could always use the harness ;)

The installer did the wiring himself instead of using/getting the bose harness (which I don't think is available yet anyway). He rewired the whole car and did away with the amp. The Z2 HU has a very decent output all on it's own, and it' actually pretty amazing how it sounds. The Bose speakers are decent... really the ones I may end up replacing are the ones in the rear doors... but for now I'll wait and see.
