On January 14, 2006 SPEED Channel came to Arizona to film a couple episodes of the TV series PINKS.

There was also a car show just inside the staging lanes. Arizona Mazda Club (AZMC) had entered the show. We had 2 RX-8's, 3 Mazda 6's, 3 Protege5's, Big Tim's MP3 and a support truck along with Loren's (DaWick777) new S2K and Mac's friend in the blue Supra.

Out of our 9 Mazdas there, Mac in his yellow RX-8 took a 4th place trophy. Mac's friend that rolled in with us took 3rd in his Supra.

Here are the pics.

Now for the PINKS

Well Speed Chanel wouldn't even tell the contestants when the show is going to air. They filmed 3 different shows at out track all in one day.
First one was a home built RX-7 that they just put together last week and tested it the friday before. It raced against a Full Race Honda.

In other Race was a impressive Chevy Mini Van running about 10 second quarters. It was put up against a silver older Porshe. It smoked the Porshe in the first run. But the Porshe broke in that run.

PINKS rules are the best 3 out of 5. So Speed Chanel opened up to us locals for anybody there who wanted to race the van.

Well it was decided on a local guy in his older Camaro.

You'll have to watch the show to see who won.

I didn't get any pictures of the van but here is the challenging local Camaro. The Camaro was getting several feet in the air at launch.

The van was tubbed in the rear with a full size set of drag slicks. It was running at least a turbo charged 454 or something huge.

Racing straight up like that is just asking for disaster. I couldn't imagine losing my car because of my own arrogance. Then again, if you won...

I left before it was over but here is what Bigg Tim had to say on the AZMC forum

That thing was Kicks ass, the RX-7 makes me have an all new respect for what the rotaries can do.

The minivan race was pushed back to 8pm. The ignition broke and they were asking for an MSD system 7 box to be borrowed. I guess they couldn't get it done fast enough, so they let the test and tune go for another hour, from 7pm to 8pm, while they fixed it. I never got to see the last race, it was too cold to hang out. So I guess I'll have to watch the show to find out, but we all know what we think happened! LOSER, and by the local guy at that!!!!!!!

Can't you just tell us who won? The worst part of the show is they spend all the show bullshitting and cut to commercial just before the race. Then I change channels and miss the race when I flip back and think' "Why the **** did I just watch this?"

Well I didn't stay around to see the the van Vs Camaro race, but it was down to one more race to determine the winner.

I did watch the RX-7 VS the Honduh.

I'll give you a hint on that race of who won.

News

2/14/05 - Just finished up a big weekend working on some things, including fabricating some seat mounts, a door bar and starting on the lexan windows front and sides. Should have it ready to dyno Wednesday. We are aiming on racing the car for shake down runs on Friday the 18th of Feb if all goes well, and the track is open.

2/16/05 - More news, some good and some bad. Drag racing won't be happening this weekend due to some serious rain headed our way. The good news is that we are taking the car for a photo shoot for DSport magazine Thursday! Should be out in the season opener issue for IDRC, which is where we will be running in competition for the first time!

I asume the van lost, but I didn't stick around. The Camaro was kicking his butt. The first race was head to head and the van lost by like 4-5 I think. The 2nd race, the van had 4 lengths I think and still lost by a couple. They didn't get to the last because of the ignition so dunno about it. That camaro was walking him, but the van was having issues. All the way down the track the van was smoking and they had to run a bunch of oil to is after the 1st race. So it definatly had issues. Unless they fixed that, I think the camaro won.

At least the van got to keep his van and only would have lost a helmet worth $2500. That was the stipulation on letting the porsche guy off and get a substitute racer for him. If the van won against the sub then he won the porsche. If the van lost, the van team would give the local winner the helmet and I think the porsche guy got to keep his car. I thought that was pretty awesome since according to the rules, if the porsche can't continue, then technically the van would have won the porsche.

Oh yeah, post # 2, pictures #6 and 7 are the best IMO!!!!:D I laid that sticker over my turbo cover, it was what the winning car in the mazda vs honda race had all over it. Can you see which car used that sticker????

Now I know where BoostedOrange got the idea for all the shocker stickers, he only has like 2 more to go to catch up!

All the other cars looking great!

She had a bagged I think Honda something or other mid 90s with RSX taillights molded in the rear.
The club she was with was "Wet Dreams" I believe. Take that for what you will.
