Picked up my car yesterday and love it already

My first night with this car was like a dream - I waited two weeks for a black one and it was worth every minute - I feel like there is so much potential in her but I feel dirty for wanting to change her at all. The urge to customize her so she is truly mine is overwhelming - I will wait a few weeks and get to know the car first and then decide - but where do I start - this is the first car that I have owned that I will have the luxury of freedom with. Should I start with the exterior personalizing or should I focus on whatever mods I can make to maximize her road performance? Any suggestions on a first step????? A girl who wants a beautiful fast car to take cruising in the moonlight needs guidance here.

Congrats on the new car! And welcome to the boards. As for mods, it all depends on what YOU want to do first, there are so many options ;) Just be gentle and break her in good first ;) And if you need someone to go cruising in the moonlight with gimme a PM :P

All show, no go, you're not a b****, you're a hoe. Step up the performance MAN. Welcome to the board.

Read the last line of her post, its a girl ;) And hey, you gotta look pretty when your going fast too! :P

thanks

I hate when people automatically assume its a guy in reference to cars - I am no car expert but I know I love speed and I love the road and I love having both at night - and everything else I can learn.

Welcome!

As ******** said, break her in easy, about 1k miles of smooth easy driving. Take her on some highway drives, but don't go the same speed all the time. Spend some time in the fast lane, med lane, and slow lane.

As far as mods go, I like the subtle touches best. These cars stand well on their own as we get them, so exterior mods can be kept to a minimum. I'd go for some performance mods after the break-in period. Cold Air Intake (CAI), a Manual Boost Controller (MBC) and a Boost Gauge and tweak her up to about 9 PSI. A nice gauge to have especially when you turn up the boost is an Air/Fuel Ratio (AFR) gauge.

Some of the peeps on the board have gotten a manual fuel pressure regulator from JoeP, but with the ECU flash coming from Mazda, I don't think that is going to be a necessary mod.

There are lots of other things (like a Turbo Time) that you can do, and some of them can be very expensive (Front Mount Inter Cooler (FMIC)) and a turbo back exhaust system, but other can tell you about them.

Again, welcome to our corner of heaven.....

Enjoy the ride :)

so anyway

Do me a favor and tell me what you boys would do first to get the most of her speed wise and I'll check back later this afternoon and bug you with more virgin car questions. I have to get SOME work done so I can get off on time tomorrow - nothing worse than working late on a Friday night!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone - I look forward to getting to know you all. Cya later!:p

What's all this night talk? :D

Welcome Welcome Welcome (drinks)

I JUST bought mine too. I have 600 on it. Here's what I'm doing in order:

1) Boost gauge
2) MBC
3) Intake

A: i'm married
B: i sell mazda's...just wondering if she bought from our dealership...we sold a black msp a couple of days ago.

Depending upon your budget I would recommend an MBC (or an EBC), Boost Gauge, A/F gauge, copper plugs, and maybe a CAI to get the maximum turkey gobble out of you car (you'll understand that after browsing the forum more :) ). Besides that I highly recommend during the break in period or longer you absorb as much of the experience on the board with different mods as possible. Since this is pretty much a one year run car we are somewhat on are own for tunning, aftermarket, and ideas. So take advantage of the knowledge on the board and enjoy your new car! Welcome(thumb)

Welcome!

As for first mod, I recomend a Valentine 1 best radar detector you can get, see Car and Driver Feb 2002.

But as for other mods...
Boost gauge, MBC or EBC, AFR gauge, CAI, FMIC, 3" turbo back exaust

JMHO
