Phone paired to Infotainment - no email arrival alert?

When my phone is paired to the infotainment system I see the TEXT icon (envelope icon) but I loose the ability to hear (audibly) when emails come in.

Is there any fix to this?

What phone do you have? Not all features are supported on all phones--for example, my iPhone 6 on AT&T (if carrier matters) doesn't support any of those email feature on the Mazda Connect system. (unamused)
