Personal Security Concern

:
Mazda CX-5 2.2d SEL
Two things have me frustrated with my new CX-5. 1) How do I unlock just the drivers door and leave all the other doors locked when I'm in the car by myself? 2) How do I lock just the tailgate when travelling through areas where it would definitely not be prudent to have it unlocked and accessible? I've only had the 2.2D manual two weeks and apart from these two things I'm loving the car. I keep looking for excuses to go for a drive. I'm quite chuffed at the number of people admiring the Zeal Red colour.

You can program the door locks so that one push unlocks the drivers door, and the next unlocks the rest. Mine came from the factory that way, I reprogrammed so that one push unlocks all doors since I usually have kids and one push is easier.

As for the tailgate, again, you can program all doors to lock when you put it in drive, or over a certain speed, there are about several different options for both locking and unlocking. Play with them and see what you like. The owners manual explains how to do all of this and it's quite easy to do. There isn't anything specific for the tailgate however, it locks/unlocks with the rest of the doors.

On the german CX-5 the tailgate is always locked while the engine is running and the handbrake is not engaged.
Try it!

I tried that and it worked. Thank you.
It seems that the other problem with opening only the drivers door with one push of the "unlock" button and the rest of the doors with a second push of the button does not apply to the UK model????? Why ever not? According to the owners handbook very little customising seems to be possible by the owner or Mazda dealers. I'm quite surprised at this, being a Japanese car, as my last car, a SAAB 93, had endless configurations of all the electronic gadgets on board when the technician plugged his laptop into a terminal under the dash.

According to my dealer (take with a grain of salt since I am in the US) the European models can also change the locking settings if you have the car stopped through the stereo unit (Setup Button, Vehicle Option, Door Locks). Hopefully it is there for you too.

I've just had an answer from the the UK Technical Dept. Reference the central locking system on the CX-5 It seems that the UK CX-5 is not as customisable as it is in many other countries. The central locking cannot be altered from the default setting. Why Mazda decided to set up the central locking system differently on the UK model and make the vehicle generally less customisable is anyone's guess, but there you have it.

That is quite unfortunate. I guess in the US we get the customization for locking and only have to give up/put up with: Tomtom safety lock, no option for tomtom live, no parking sensors front or rear, no diesel option, no auto stop... If the steering wheel was on the other side and I could switch the cluster for MPH I would totally trade you!
