The SARRC regional is being held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (Feb 22-24) at Road Atlanta. If you are able to run that race you already know what's going on, but I think nobody here will be running in that race. Due to local sound ordinances they can't run Sunday before noon, even though they have the track and facilities all setup.
So to make more money off the race and provide an incentive for people to volunteer to help out, they are opening the track Sunday morning for regular guys (you and me). If you volunteer to help with the SARRC race the entry fee is $20, otherwise it's $100. There will be three classes: advanced, intermediate, and beginner. The beginner class will require an instructor to ride with you (instructors are provided). Since this is a half-day event there will only be two 20 minute runs for each class. Things will get started early, so make sure to check the schedule posted on the SCCA Atlanta website (
http://www.atl-scca.org/).
This is a high speed road course so it may require some preparation. You'll need a certified helmet and a fully functional car. Your car will be safety tech'ed before you run so you should read the
2007 SCCA Time Trials Handbook section 3.1 (PDX Level 1). SCCA membership is not required for PDX events!
If you have raced at your local drag strip or club level autocross, this is on a totally different level. The run times are long enough for you to get comfortable with the track and really push your car to the limit. Too bad it's only a half day, but $100 for 40 minutes of run time is not too bad ($2.5/min or $0.50/min for volunteers). I pay about $2.50/min for track time at my local autocross (8 one minute runs for $20).
Hope I answered some questions. BTW I have never driven Road Atlanta, but I have been to a PDX at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham AL. It was a full day event and I was about sick of driving by the end of the day

My fully factory 2007 Mazdaspeed 6 did quite well on that track. The car was a total blast through the corners... I think everyone should do it at least once.
Also, this is the first of many PDX events in the southeast region this year. Check out the
SCCA website, and the
NASA website (they call them "HPDE" instead of "PDX") calendars for more events.
