passing smog test in Vegas?

So I almost registered my car the other day, but waited in line an hour and couldn't get to the next stage b/c I didn't have my social security card. Had everything else: passport, pay stub, EVERYthing else...

So anyway, do they just plug into OBD-II? I hope no visual inspection b/c I have headers that remove the first cat. I'm throwing no CEL after the non-fouler fix. Also have a high-flow second cat but I doubt they'd notice that.

i have an 03 P5, passed emissions with no problems at all...i think they juz plugged in the OBD-II not really sure about visual inspection but i was there the whole time and they never seemed to have any complaints. by the way i have an sri and a custom headerback exhaust w/a high-flow cat.well, i registered my car last month (12/18/05) but when i did, dmv never asked for my smog check results (dunno).

Ok, well If you go to a smog place they will probably just plug into your OBD-II port and call it good, they do check your gas cap though. The last thing they want to do is crawl under your car looking for violations. Anyway, you car looks really stock anyway so I doubt they will care one bit. As long as your not throwing a CEL you'll pass. I've done a custom MIL on a locals car and he passed no problem with a header and all that. Anyway, let me know how it goes. Oh yeah, if you want give me a call sometime if you want to roll by. I'm off on Sat/Sun, Fridays are rough as I have to now work a few hours in the morning but anyway, if you need a garage to do something in let me know. I'm probably right down the road from you. I'm at the I-215 and Cheyenne.

I passed no problem. It took 6 hours of DMV hell but I now have one car and one motorcycle registered in the great state of Nevada.

Don't mean to pry but are you just tired of Nevada? The wife and I were thinking of moving out there. Were tired of the Bay area (California). Housing wise its too hard to afford anything out here. We own a town house but just couldn't afford another thousand dollars a month for a home. I see brand new homes in the 280 to 350 range that are massive and would be cheaper than our mortgage know. Sorry for the thread jack. Good luck in Ohio!

I was born and raised here in Las Vegas...... Left for 3 years to boarding school, then 5 years in the Marine Corps. I'm 31 and I've lived in quite a few different places and living in Ohio would be fun, for how long I'm not sure. Las Vegas has it's high points, and I've enjoyed many of them growing up here. Homes prices here are great compared to Cali, but Ohio house prices rock....

Anyway, nothing in Ohio yet, they told me they don't have any openings but they have my resume and I've sent it to quite a few people so I hope that someday it works out for us, much more family support there in Ohio then here.

My problem is all of my family is here. Parents are divorced and re-married, and I have my in laws. And I have a 6 month old with like 6 sets of grandparents to spread him around too. So its going to be pretty hard to break away from Cali. My wife and I will be in town this weekend bowling a tournament, so were going to go look at some homes if we can find time.

Johnny why you moving bro? =) Would be a big loss to the las vegas mazda community. Anyway I refinanced my car in my name so I might need to register it again. However a melted the wirering (SP?) on my o2 sensor. So i'll probably just get another one from the dreaded dealer for 150 bucks. Would it be easier to just put the stock headers to get it smogged or could I get you to solve this o2 sensor once and for all without me screwing it up again? =) I just redid my brakes, they look sweet! Slotted rotors with blue calipers.

Where did it melt at, I know that it melted somewhere, but where? At the sensor, or between the sensor and the plug, give me as much info as you can. We can fix it, but how hard it will be is yet another question.

I'm still looking for a job in Ohio, AutoDesk recruiter want's me to apply for an: APPLICATIONS ENGINEER/CIVIL so we'll see what happens with that. I just applied for another job in Ohio as well so we'll have to wait on that one as well. If I move to Ohio it'll be a lot more family support for the us so it's a good move for the kids. Anyway, hit me up and where the harness melted at or you can roll over to the house this weekend and we'll get it fixed up and working for you so you can go and pass smog again. I think that I'm free'd up this weekend so Friday, Sat, or Sun are good to go. I'll double check with Cory, pm me your cell phone number again in case I lost it.

You could do a cheap, inexpensive, compression test on your engine. I'm sure you could find what's it's supposed to be at somewhere on here. Just trying to save you from going to the dealer.

...jumping back on topic (for a post, at least)

the dmv dones't ask for the smog papers because when you get smog done, it automatically goes to the dmv electronically.

...FYI once you register it in person, you can register it the next year through the internet. (you'll need a new smog...but no line at the DMV)
