Pass CA Smog

Need some help. I got my 07 MS3 shipped to me from Irvine Ca., to Germany. Then I shipped it back to the states in 08. Later I found out the car was spec'd for Fed Emissions, but not for Cali Emissions. What must get replaced so I can ensure it passes smog in Cali? Thanks in advanced.

when i bought my integra from north carolina (lived there for 3 years), and drove back to CALI, i just had to get it inspected by the dmv and i passed smog no problems.

if the car was purchased in cali it should have cali spec emissions.

Its likely the cats might be different. I work in a hyundai parts dept, and they will have different part numbers for Federal emission cats and California emission cats.

It could just be a simple reflash at the dealer. Call the DMV or a local smog shop to verify. regardless it should pass smog.

Thanks Everyone!

I think most Mazdas built in Japan come to Irvine, CA before going to US dealerships. Meaning, my car didn't come with a title, it came with a Certificate of Origin when I received it in Germany (155mph daily and legally is simply awesome!). Thus the issue with Fed Emission standards only. Seems ironic that Mazda just doesn't make all their cars CARB approved. If it is just the Cat, I'm guessing they're pinching pennies on the catalyst materials in the cat.

I'll have it smogged and see what it'll read. Once out of state tags expire, how many days do I have to get it renewed, before getting a ticket!!!??

She passed Smog! It took several attempts. Dealer mechanics must of tweaked something, but it passed. Going to pick up the plates on Tuesday. Now I just have to get my dad to find the front bumper plate bracket. I didn't need it back in Kansas (Rear plate issued only.)

Good news! Enjoy the ride!(drive2)
