Panasonic CQ-VD6503U double-din head unit DVD player Q?

Crutchfield also says that the alpine CDA-9852 doesn't fit. I have the 9851 and it fits with no problem.

I'd say go for it and if it doesn't fit, return it.

Well, I was going to get it off of ebay, since it's like $200+ less there. Those punk make it more difficult to return.
I see that the 9852 is listed at 162mm deep, and the 9851 is 160mm. I wonder if that make the difference?

Yeah, I just did some research and they appear to have the same mounting depth.

For what it's worth, my alpine has a 160mm (or 6.4 in) depth.

EDIT: The 9852's mounting depth is 2mm greater @ 162. There's WAAAAY more than 2 mm behind my 9851.

Looks like the Panasonic is 6.5" deep, or 165mm. Crutchfield lists the max. depth at 6 7/16", or 163.5mm. I think I'll give it a try and see what happens...

Nice unit and a great price! Let us know how it turns out. Does panasonic have a navigation add-on for it?

I was told the CDA-9857 (piece of total crap btw, back to my 4 year old CDA-7894 after 1 day with it) wouldn't fit but it did. Dunno what the mounting depth was off the top of my head.

I got the unit and installed it yesterday. It does fit, but just barely. It's actually the cover for the rear support screw that keeps it from sitting in the dash perfectly. That, and the wires want to push it out. I'll have to rearrange the wires to the sides so it doesn't put pressure on the back of the unit. I took some pics late last night after fiddling w/it for a while, but was too tired to down load them. I'll post 'em later.
So far after 1 day of use I'm generally happy w/it. It's pretty intuitive to use, unlike the Kenwood and Pioneer units I've used before. The 2 times a year that I'd adjust the clock on the Kenwood I'd have to read the manual again 'cause it's buried deep in the menu system.
I mainly listen to my ipod, and the scrolling/song selection process is way better than the other units I've used to controll the ipod. Searching through playlists, artists or songs is really easy and quick with the touch screen control. I don't have to disconnect the ipod to find a particular song (out of the 2200+ I have on it now) and the reconnect it to listen to it like I had to w/the Kenwood. That's key.
The DVD player spools up quickly, too, and it has a dolby digital processor. Sound is great, but the picture quality isn't as good as I thought it would be. No biggie, 'cause I don't plan on using it much.
For sound processing the 7-band EQ is pretty good, although I liked the 3-band System Q-EX EQ better due to it's frequency selection and Q-factor changes you could make. The 2V pre-outs are weak as well. I'm driving the speakers w/the internal amp, and it seems to be loud enough without distortion, although I haven't push it really hard yet.
Panasonic doesn't have a Nav unit yet, but they're supposed to soon. Hopefully it won't cost an arm and a leg. I have a cheapie Nav unit already, so I'm not dying for Panasonic to release theirs.
Overall I'm happy with it 'cause it looks cool, sounds good, and has enough adjustability to keep my ears happy.

Pics... and please excuse the dirt and straw wrappers. I likes me iced coffee!
