This is the first time I have heard anyone say to just spray adhesion promoter and not "wash sand wash sand wash sand wash sand primer sand wash primer sand wash paint......"

So, anyone who has painted wheels with adhesion promoter, any pics? how did it turn out? was it just one coat, or two, three? and then just paint on top? seems a ton easier this way

dude, it seriously probably would stick with adhesion promoter.

i'd never try it though. just scuff them up a bit first man. nothing too serious.

i literally just cleaned my rims really well...and then sprayed them with about 3 coats. I have yet to chip any of the paint, so honestly i think sanding, scuffing etc is not really needed.

here's a pic of my wheels i wish i could show u better ones but they wont upload so i had to crop them

yeah, you're probably right man.

it is a big pain in the ass to sand these wheels too. i've already sanded 2 of them though so i might as well do the other two. i'm not going to use primer though. unless i use the primer as the main color (oxide red).

i might do black or white too though. idk yet...

Anything less unless its a show car wont last front rim temp if you actually run the car will get to hot for most paints

i didnt even see this thread here. I painted my wheels on my MS3. I used high temp paint (gold) and metallic clear. As far as prep work, I cleaned, sanded. Then painted,re wet sanded (1500 grit), sprayed one more coat and cleared.
Heres a pic.
