Mazda3 i touring
so I am painting my badges and am having trouble
1. Getting the paint to stay on. I have sanded the emblems down and am using Rustolium High Heat. Am I doing something wrong here? I dont want to go through the car wash and have it all come off the first time. What kind of paint should I use?

2. I have tried 2 different double sided tapes. none of them are all that great. They stick just fine but there is a huge gap between them and the car. I am hesitant about using glue just in case I need to take them off for some reason. What do you all recommend?

The front emblem turned out nice without any problems... its the back that is giving me the troubles. That crease on the back trunk (sedan) doesn't help either.

Thanks for the help/suggestions

I would have done the following:
1. Bleach until the majority of the chrome/copper was removed
2. 600 grit to remove the remainder of the copper, knock the sharp edges off
3. Ammonia rinse to put the final touches on the emblem
4. Krylon Fusion White as a primer, a few coats to assure coverage
5. After a good solid prime, you can you just about paint, I actually used the same color as my car
6. I would then add a couple of coats of clear.
I also did a little wet sand to make sure I had a clean smooth surface.

Awesome! thank you! Did you just let the emblem sit in the Clorox until it was done? How long for the ammonia wash?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot!

I changed out the bleach every two hours until complete, then sanded a little, back in the bleach, little more standing, repeat until done.

THEN WASH THE EMBLEM WITH SOAP AND WATER, this is a must, the reaction of chlorine and ammonia puts off a gas that is not the best thing to breath in.

Once clean, you should only need an hour in the ammonia, should be almost white when done. Clean again and wait until the next day to paint, there is no need to rush.

There alot of write ups on this topic on just about every forum. Remember, sandpaper and Krylon Fusion are your friends when dealing with the majority of cosmetic painting.

Good luck

sweet thanks!

One more ? about what adhesive you used? I have seen everyone says 3m tape but every 3m tape i tried is too think and keeps the emblem raised off the car.

Sorry for the delay, I used double sided tape that is used for RC helicopter gyros. 3M is a little thick
