painting calipers....

i was looking at the caliper and noticed that there is a tin metal bar that goes over the caliper. did you guys paint that too?
I think that's just personal preference. I doubt it, but to be honest I'm not 100% sure if there's anything more than aesthetics involved here.

so my question is. do we have to take apart the caliper to paint it?
No, you do not. Removing calipers would be a lot of extra work. Jack it up, remove wheels, follow paint manufacturer's instructions exactly. This includes NOT using brakes (ie, driving) for at least 24 hours after application, so make sure you've got a 2nd ride or at least a bike ;)

Jandree - thanks for the link to the phantom w/ yellow. I was thinking yellow, but now seeing it, I feel it's a little too agressive for my liking on the mazda5. I'll probably go with black calipers on the 5 and with the yellow on the miata. I'll do the paint when I switch the wheels over for the winter.

i still like the yellow but i think it needs to be brighter than this guys.

Yellow Calipers

Just finished!!!! Took me forever but turned out ok. Made a couple mistakes but i am happy with the results.

looks fabulous! the yellow is certainly unique and stands out nicely... definitely an attention getter! I also notice the G2 paint is MUCH glossier than the black Duplicolor engine enamel I used. IMO it's nearly impossible to execute this project 100% perfectly the first time, a goof up or two is inevitable no matter how much instructions/advice you have, so no worries.

great job (2thumbs)
