painting calipers....

hey guys... I think our calipers look a little blah.. I have a white 5... what do you think of painting the calipers black (flat or glossy), or maybe gunmetal??? any of you guys good with photoshop that can play with my thoughts??? opinions welcome....

Thanks

I think any darker color would suit a white 5 well. It depends on what colors wheels you have also. If they're the stock aluminum ones I would personally just go with a simple black. If I had a white car I'd get darker rims (like gunmetal) and then paint my calipers white. I think that would pop quite nicely.

In any case I would highly recommend you use this http://www.g2usa.com/ to paint them. You're only gonna get glossy by the way.

^^^ White calipers would look clean for 2 Days, then they would get dust from the brakes all over them..Or burn from heat and turn Yellow(ish)..

OK I can agree about that brake dust but if you use G2 it will guaranteed stay that color since it's super high temp epoxy.

I have the platinum silver and am planning on painting mine blue. I'm waiting until I have a need to pull the tires to change the brake pucks, though.

my fav color of calipers...

has anyone done this on our car? i was looking at the caliper and noticed that there is a tin metal bar that goes over the caliper. did you guys paint that too? i was thinking that it should not be painted. if anything it should be painter black.

so my question is. do we have to take apart the caliper to paint it?

tia

just wanted to see some actual pictures if anyones got one.

My guess would be that the Mazda3 shares the same calipers as the 5 and a search in the Mazda3 sub-forum would yield a picture or 2.

I didn't think much of black calipers... until I saw them in person the other day. (Glossy black Brembos on a Jeep Cherokee SRT8). Wow. Subtle, yet stunning and clean. My wife who normally thinks any car mods are ridiculous, actually said she really liked them. This mod may be in the cards for me in the future. Here's a pic of the SRT8's calipers...

Jandree - thanks for the link to the phantom w/ yellow. I was thinking yellow, but now seeing it, I feel it's a little too agressive for my liking on the mazda5. I'll probably go with black calipers on the 5 and with the yellow on the miata. I'll do the paint when I switch the wheels over for the winter.

Yup, no problem. I agree, the yellow is a bit too bold for my taste, but it's all personal preference anyway. I'm 50/50 with the Gold and the Black. The black is a cleaner look, but with the effort and cost going into it, I'd like people to actually notice a difference.

Here are some more Photoshopped samples. The real pic is the Stock one on the top. I couldn't get the Black looking right in the small shot, so I added a close-up shot that seemed to show detail better. I have a feeling the blue isn't perfect either maybe?

Finally, here is the link if you want to download the Photoshop file to enhance it some more. Download
