(sad1) Hey guys/gals,I know that Mazda (factory) paint is notoriously thin, but here is my dilemma .I had my front bumper replaced about two months ago ,done by my local Mazda dealerships bodyshop.Needless to say now my "new" bumper looks 2 years old not two months old!! ,the paint chipping is horendous. My previous bumper never looked like this after a year and a half.So am I a whiny little b**** and I should accept the fact that a paint job not done at the factory will ever be as good or do I drive my P5 through the dealers window and demand another paint job!!??(bicker)

if you can convince them to paint it again for free, it is worth a try. As for body shops, they are never going to be as good as factory.

I am not sure nor where can be done. But, I've read in this forum that is you clearcoat, say, your bumper, it won't chip that easily.

the madza painters are some mark ass bitches that cheaped out on our paint. I would look into applying a lot of aftermarket clearcoat on the front bumper or look at the 3m invisible protection thing

I would go to a collision shop...the dealer doesn't have the experience that a dedicated body shop would have. I always get a dealer quote cause it will be WAY high, and then take it to a body shop. I had a rocker panel painted by a body shop using PPG paint that was color matched and it looked better than factory.

I'm wondering if they removed the bumper, painted it and then baked it. If you don't bake it the paint will come off.

Paint flaking/peeling can occur from many reasons. One is if they did not properly mix the components on the clear and that is why it is peeling off. Another is if the paint is cracking then it may be from not having a flex additive in the paint. For bumpers this is very important because they are made of flexible plastic and must be able to bend when it is tapped by another object. One last reason I can think of is that they did not properly prep the bumper and if they put on a new "raw" bumper they may have skipped a step and forgot to put an adhesion promotor on first before even applying anything to that new bumper. definitely bring the car back and complain. If a bumper or any other panels is done properly it should look the same as the factory if not better.

I am seeing the dealer this afternoon ,this would be the 3rd time they would paint it if they actually agree to try again.
