Paint protection?

Hi, I've had my 5 for about 3 weeks now. I'm considering having the 3M protective paint shield (clear bra) applied. It is supposed to protect against everything from bird droppings to small rocks that otherwise would ding the paint and invite rust. It's not cheap -- a local shop that specializes in the procedure quoted me $800 for their deluxe option (complete front section plus inner door areas).

Not sure this is a wise investment. I mean, I know that after a few years a car's front can look like it lost a BB gun fight, with flecks of paint missing everywhere. This paint shield will certainly minimize that, and reduce the number of times I have to reach for touch-up paint.

But of course dings and scratches and rust can crop up almost anywhere, and this shield only covers about 1/4 of the car's exterior surface.

Questions for fellow-5 owners (especially those who have had their car for a year or more): how is your paint job holding up? What does your front end look like after a few years on the road? Are you finding any rust issues? If so, where? Anyone with first-hand knowledge about these paint shields?

what color is yours? I have noticed that white is the worst color to have this done on. It shows yellowing very very badly after a few years and IMO looks worst than rock chipped front end. If you have a black car or very dark one, then go for it!

hmmm well if you do decided to do this, make sure you talk to them about yellowing and guarantees. Get as many details, in writing, as possible.

The mazda5 bra is quite easy to install and remove. I use it for those long
vacation trips. And the bra is in the box on normal within the city driving.

I don't know which among the hits are stones.
