The paint color of spicey orange seems to me to be very thin in depth. I have had paint chips in my front bumper and the hood. Is anyone else experiencing this? It seems like the paint is coming off due to minor contact with objects when driving on the road. I had a honda before and it didn't do this even when contact when rocks flew onto the car.

i ahve had no such chipping... but to give you some aid, mazda sent me a survey and siad that a bottle of touch-up paint will be sent to me for filling it out. i suggest trying that... also, superstreet (tuner magazine) had a section on car paint care in their last issue which included a mothers kit for use with touch-up paint.

I used to drive a Honda Civic and i can tell you i had soo many paint chips it's not even funny.
I have only one chip on my car so far, and i from my own experience i actually heard this rock hit my car and i was sure of it that i got my first chip (damn semi). To my experience, the paint on the Mazda is actually better than my previous car.

Thank you for the responses. My honda was black so maybe black paints holds up better than other colors. Maybe it's just that I didn't pay much attention to it since the orange is much more flashier. I filled out the survey and am currently waiting for the paint to arrive. Does anyone know how long it takes mazda to send the paint out?

Man, today's paint jobs suck. After a year, I filled in many small chips on my hood and bumper. It really pissed me off. I can't wait to see what my hood looks like after this winter

Yeah if you do a search, you will see lots of unhappy people with Mazda's paint jobs. I've got a whole buffet of paint chips on the front end of my '01 ES. However, the newer Mazdas are definitely much better than the ones from the early 90's. I had 2 Mazdas from the early 90's that the paint was peeling off like a shell from a hard-boiled egg.
If nicks and chips are on the front hood and face of your car, you might just have to go with a bra. I already have 3 ugly nicks down to the metal on my hood and I got my front mask for my P5. No paint job can withstand rocks that you run into when the dump truck in front of you either spews them from their load or they kick it up...
Check out the bra that was custom made for the MSP. It's pretty good looking and might be worth it to protect your front paint:

I own the magnetic bra. It covers about 12" of the hood, supposedly were most dings hit. I only use it on longer road trips though. I worry about keeping it on all the time and having paint fade unevenly?

The other thread had a debate on the paint fading caused by keeping the bra on - my take is that you do have to take it off to wash the car, and the bra itself should definitely be regularly dusted off, and washed every several months.
If you leave it on all the time you should worry more about scratching your finish because of all the dirt that accumulates underneath, than about uneven fading.
If you do notice uneven paint fade, I think doing a detail job on the car should restore the finish (I could be wrong). I'm gonna worry about it then...

Just get the 3M paint and chip gaurd and be done with it. And yes Bra's suck!!!

I mixed up some spicy oragne to paint my cell phone at work and its the most transparent (thin and sorta clear) paint i have ever seen. There is almost no pigment in the paint. Its all gold pearl and clear. There is a little orange but not much. I would not paint a whole car with that paint as its super expensive. Like 500 or 600/gal. My phone looks good though.
