Paint Care and Car Detailing

you can always use the high pressure water spray to wash/rinse the brush at the car wash, might work?...well ok, heres my question: what can i use to get rid of scratches? these scratches are a bit big, someone decided to put stuff on top of the trunk and then somewhat drag them. i tried using some regular scratch removers but it seemed to only work at the ends of the scratches not in the center areas.

Has anyone ever had any experience with Zaino Bros. products?
I've heard people swear by the stuff...
Thanks:)

Scott, yea, i have hear about, and even have used Zaino products ~~ however, I do not have the time to set aside for my vehicle to keep it down for days. The stuff needs to sit overnight, etc. Finding time one day a week is hard enough let alone two.

But~~ the stuff works excellent for those who can let their car sit INSIDE a garage for 2 days. (i don't have a garage yet)

I consistently achieve results as good or better using my old reliable products, and tricks I learned through the years. I have a pic (kinda crappy resolution) on www.protege5online.com in the customers car section, second one down (the black one). That's my baby right after I waxed it :) Looks pretty , no?? Wish it looked like that now, it snowed here today:mad:

My point is that marketing is marketing, and while the product is excellent, don't get me wrong, i can do without waiting 2 days to make my car look the same as I can do in 3-4 hours. Just my opinion, though.

Racer5

I got about 95% of them out by using a pre-wax cleaner by Mothers. The other spots are mostly on the Spoiler and the hood. It looks like it's pretty much etched into the paint. But it's very hard to see it now. Thanks for the help!

Zaino prodcut

Hey Racer, Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. FYI though, I think it was recently, but Zaino has made an additive that allows you to work much quicker...
Look at the bottom for ZFX, that's what it is that I'm referring too.
Thanks again:DCheck it out! (ZFX)

I think that stuff is new, I have never heard of it, or used it. Probably due to my lack of inquiry about thier products in the past 1-2 years. Try it out, the stuff, like I said, works excellent. The only downfall it had was the time it took. Also, I have become a huge believer in Carnuba based waxes. Carnuba is a very hard surface, and wears exceptionally well. I feel that Synthetic based waxes, do not have the lasting protection as Carnuba.

I have used excellent sythetic waxes ~~3M, Zaino, Klasse~~ and feel that, here in the Northeast (lots of acid rain) they do not last as long. Carnuba will absorb acid in the rain, make paint look deeper (especially in darker colors) and hide minor swirls(wax alone, no glaze). Synthetics do not perform well on darker colors, and usually lack depth. Plus synthetics can "highlight " swirls and flaws. Just an example~~try waxing a black car with a silicone based wax~~ And call me when you do, so Ican get some entertainment out of watching your desperately try to remove all of the swirl marks, and even the coat out.

Not to knock Zaino~~ I think the stuff works great, and if that additive takes less time~~try it out~~ what Isay and post are only my opinion. You may find something that would even convert me!!! As for now, I'll stick with what made me $$ and made heads turn time after time!!!;)

This thread is a great idea. Keep the tips coming!

These glaze and swirl removers, do they really work? Even the liquid ebony? And do they wash off? I ask because I have had a lot of people tell me there is no way to get rid of them without actually machine buffering the car. And even then, it's not a sure thing. Whoever washed my car at the dealer before I got it...well, I got swirls. And I want them gone. I HATE swirls.

I'm going to get the mothers kit and try it anyhow. I don't thing I can get the liquid ebony stuff around here.

I hate winter.

Swirls are caused by small scratches in the clear coat. These can only be "removed" by wet sanding with fine grit paper. However, these swirl remover products will smooth out the clear coat enough to make them invisible to the naked eye. Liquid Ebony works well, or any hand glaze. try to stay away from machine buffing, unless you have experience with it. You can cause more swirls, or even worse, burn our paint.
