paddle shift retrofit possible ?

Does anybody know if it is possible to install a paddleshift system on
a AT tranny ? What type of technology is involved ?
Just curious (thought)
(that what get's me in trouble usually ...)

this could be easier than you think...

figure that the + and - functions are simple relays or switches/triggers. what would prevent some one from redirecting those switches to set of retrofitted paddles mounted to the steering wheel?

unless i am missing the point of what you are trying to do here.

Well, if he has a sport-matic trans and just wants the +/- function on his steering wheel with paddles, I'm sure it could be done. If he doesn't have a sport-matic and wants to turn it into one with paddles...no.

That's what I am talking about ... creativity. I do not have the shiftmatic trans
but I am sure we can install an actuator that can duplicate the movement on
the shift lever.

Why not its the same concept at the shiftronic addon for AT. It would be quite easy to switch over the buttons provided with a shiftronic to paddles. You guys are acting like its a impossibility

Oh, right, im assuming he has the sportshift stuff now.... dont know how hard it would be to convert non sportshift...

Oh, I thought you were talking about an electrically actuated clutch, like a paddle system on a Ferrari.

Yeah, I suppose this could be done.

well the first question seems to be:
with the lack of sportronic in mind, what is different between the sportronic and the regular? (i.e. what parts are needed for a conversion...)
second question:
are they all necessary? (i.e. is a new physical shifter necessary or are the differing parts going to be displaced anyway?)

There is a company called Powertrain Solutions that makes transmission control modules that can give most any modern electronic transmission manual shift, traction control, correct speedos, and change shift quality. You could easily setup paddles, buttons, levers, whatever you want. There are a few pre-paddled steering wheels floating around on parts places online. Here's the site:

Or, you could get one of these. A Quaife sequential 6-speed. This is a manual transmission of course, and can be had for the bargain basement price of $19,000.
