Pablo's 2004 MSM Build

1. From what I was told by Evan when they changed the ones on Will's car.

2. The MSM turbo sits lower than aftermarket turbos, last time it was on a lift we took a look and could barely see the bolts.

I will say that the driver's side mount was a piece of cake. Passenger side was the b****.

I honestly can't say that the second time around it would be any easier either. It was just hard to get to and get everything lined up. Maybe putting the passenger side mount on first would've been better since it was easier to get to the driver's side one? I dunno.

Huh. I had to get at them when replacing my engine (for some reason) and I don't recall it being that bad. Having the car up in the air with front wheels off and the engine supported it worked pretty well.

I have a lot of u-joints and ratchet extensions as well as ratcheting wrenches though, having the right tools make it a lot easier I think. As did an extra set of hands to tweak the engine and get stuff lined up.

I see people quoting times from 4 hours for both to 10-15 minutes per side... even taking exaggeration out of those numbers it sounds like there's an easy way or two and a number of frustrating ways.

That's a lot of what I'm reading. Maybe taking off the oil filter would help, and going in from the wheel well. There's a lot going on down there, like the clutch slave cylinder, that could be moved/removed. A friend of mine with an MR2 came up with the MR2 rule: if it's in the way, take it off, you'll always get the job done faster.

What I really don't want to do it take the turbo\manifold off, there is very little room to get to the bolts. Will did it while replacing the header, so that would have made it easier. Other people say the header\turbo doesn't need to come off.

I don't think it should have to come off. I got at the two mounts from under the car.

This guy has a lift and a transmission jack (cheating) but this is generally how I accessed the engine mounts:

I think you could've done it without the header off but it would've made it much more difficult and the time to take the header off was minimal anyways.

The problem with the passenger side was that you couldn't see what you're doing and reach in there at the same time. Maybe having it up in the air would've helped I'm not sure. Evan is a better wrencher than I am so I'm sure he would have some advice.

My advice: aint doing it at my house, sucka. :D

It's not really "hard", just tedious since it was a pain to get all the bolts lined up and threaded. It's basically the equivalent to the rear motor mount of a Protege. We used my engine hoist to lift and wiggle the motor into position. And attempting it with the exhaust mani still in would be a pain. I would say it's about a 4 hours job for both sides. But I work slowly...

2 hours for me then. LOL.

Installed the suspension I got from Will... zomg its like a new car. On the on ramp it just feels like it wants to go faster, body roll seems to be completely gone. We'll see how it feels after an alignment. The whole thing took 2 hours, not a bad install.

Stock ride height:

front: 13"
rear: 14"

New ride height:
front: 12" 3/8
rear: 12" 3/4

Didn't change height from what Will had, we'll see if Backstreet changes it.

Car felt great after the suspension upgrade!

I'm glad everything worked out well with the installation.
