.....going out for the first time in the snow!!

The snow's very powdery and light....shouldn't be any problems.

Wish me luck!

On LI you should be fine with the all season tires, you don't get much snow down there.

Be safe.

Yeah well I am not doing too well in Cleveland Ohio with these dunlops.... THEY SUCK in the snow!!! (pissed) I was sliding all over the road today because they can't grip.

I don't know about you guys but without serious snow tires or chains it's dangerous in the snow with the p5. The car is too lightweight and can't even make it up a slight hill with only 4 or 5 inches of snow and slush. I live in a hilly section of Bergen County, believe me, it's no picnic and we've had our share of snow over the last 2 years.

Anway I'll be going to Japan next month where htey have non-metallic tire grips/chains - will be investing in a set for my car.

stupid stock dunlops!!! they'll get ya killed with only a few inches on the ground...lost control of my car the other day takin a turn almost hit a damn lamp post

I'm not sure why Mazda dealers don't state that the Dunlops blow in the winter...technically, they're ultra-hi po tires (albeit on the "low end").

Wow, I must be lucky then because the P5 did great today in the snow. I mean, it's no snow machine, but I didn't have any problems at all. It's all in the way you drive....you can't drive like the roads are bare and expect the car to handle great when there's snow on the ground....you gotta take it slow and easy. :)

I'm wondering how many here just aren't that skilled at winter driving... The P5 seems fine in the snow to me... albeit it would of course do a lot better with snow tires, and even better with studded snow tires.

I drove a 92 civic for 4 years while living in the mountains of Colorado. It did fine; but I always got comments like "how do you drive that thing in the snow?" Then there were the guys driving real wheel drive chevy pickups that made you really look like a pussy if you said your front wheel drive car sucked in the snow.

Unless there is more than 8 inches of snow, any front wheel drive car with decent tread, whether summer tires or all season, will drive decently in the snow. It is more a function of driver ability and experience.

i loved driving my p5 in the snow. i never had that feeling that i was not in control of the car. with all the snow on the ground it was fun being able to slide the back of the car out whenever i wanted. even with the stock tires in the snow i felt like i had soo much control over which way the car went and how she handled in the snow covered turns.

never had that kinda confidence in my old escort wagon.

but there seriously is no traction at all with the stock tires....if you know what your doing its not that big of a problem tho ;)

My Blizzaks are keeping me on the road, that and the fact that I have been driving in the snow since I was 16.....

Wow, don't forget the JDM backseat cupholders and all the other fun stuff we don't get here. I don't suppose you can fit a fold-flat front seat in your suitcase? :)

round00,
I've driven my share of good, bad, heavy, light, et. cars in the snow. Yes, driver experience in snow is important, but you take an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with bald tires and it will still go where my protege5 won't in the snow. Seriously. I know how to drive in the snow with my p5 but it's frustrating when stupid suv's trundle circles around you...

Dlovtsur, sorry for the threadjack. Well if there's an empty parking lot with snow in it you can definitely have fun in it!!

nocomment,
yeah, there's lots of stuff over there, I'll see if I can get some catalogs and maybe get a group buy going or something...

If your driving on snow with the stock SP5000's, do yourself a favour,...pick a solid immovable object close to home, you know,...walking distance,...brace yourself and just drive straight into it,...it will save any collateral damage and the travel inconvience.

they're BRUTAL in the wet/snow,...
Dunlops are pretty bad, but what do you expect for OEM's. As soon as they wear out I'm getting Toyo T1-S Proxies (unless a Goodyear F1 fits.... )
