P5 NA Build - Target 175whp

You can run the MT in either TPS, load, and basic(which is a simplified form of load tuning. You will be load tuning in matrix mode unless you have a track car

P&P awesomeness!

Got the head back from Protege Garage today! It looks awesome. the oversized valves fit perfect and the springs and retainers seem as though they fit great. What are you still doing reading my post look at the pics!!!

Go back and check the fist page if you want to compare.

pic1 - 1mm oversized valves from crossover
pic2 - intake 3 angle valve job
pic3 - exhaust 3 angle valve job
pic4 - exhaust P&P - smooth as a baby's butt
pic5 - Intake P&P - no more ugly casting marks

I'll keep you guys posted as the motor gets put back together. I'll try to document it with pics but work has been crazy lately.

nice head work - did you happen to get numbers off the flow bench? would be useful if you did (before and after), because it will give others an indication of just what X cfm @ Y lift means from an NA power point of view.

Hurry up and install it :P

also, with agressive aftermarket valve springs, what sort of redline are you looking to push? the twiggy cams should, as they stand, comfortably support an 8000rpm rev limit, more with dialing them in properly - but you'll get some crazy piston speeds at that sort of rev limit (as you can see in my spreadsheet posted somewhere in the race thread)......

Quote from JDM Sam reffering to the aftermarket springs available through Ken at PG from crossover and supertech

"There are also 2 versions. single spring and dual spring.

This is the difference in the springs.
Factory springs have about 45 lbs of seat pressure (at closed valve)
Single: 58 lbs (+28%)
Dual : 85 lbs (+ 88%)

So depending on your build goals there are 2 choices to go with.

The dual is recommended for people who plan on getting aggressive cams, big boost, increased rpm.
The single is recommend for a more conservative build."

I went with the single for a little more peace of mind concerning valve float. I hope to run red lines of 7000-7250. Not too much more since i still have stock rods.

I dont know if and flow bench numbers were taken, I will ask.

Would heat or cryo treating our stock rods improve strength by a significant margin or would it be like gold plating a pile of sh*t?

I thought I read somewhere the stock rods weren't the strongest things in the world and were a recommended replacement for even a modest build, Boosted or N/A.

That being said, you have yourself one sexy build going there mate! Would it be possible to get a run down on a single post of the build parts or do you not want copycats :P

Does the FSZE use the same rods as the FSDE?

If it does im not to worried about the rods for my build.... if it doesnt then im starting to lean toward forged rods for an extra margin of saftey/reliability. Plus if i go with forged rods then i might as well make them a little longer and go with forged pistons, which i can get at a CR of 10.7:1.

IF I did that I would be in the running for the all out title of 100hp/L

On the other hand many people on this forum run higher than stock boost with stock rods on their msp's.... i dont think slightly increased compression will add near the same kind of stress.

we will see. I'm kinda getting to the point where I just want my car back so I can enjoy it.

i answered my own question.....

http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84124

Lots of good info here....

FSZE has exact same internals and redline of 7000-7200

Microtech has a hard and soft fuel cut no?

I could probably get away with a soft cut at 7000 and a hard cut at 7200.

Let me know what you guys think.... remember i want the power but im not going to be driving my car to redline every time i accelerate.

hard and soft cut yes.... you have a "rev limit" (soft cut) and "rev cut" (hard cut).
i run mine on stock internals with a 7000rpm soft and 7250 hard (i find 7200 is a little bit easy to hit out of first)

engine doesn't mind being run to redline all the time, i do it at every set of traffic lights :P

pistons are in and head is back on. The cams have been installed once for shim measurements and shims should get ordered today.

I'm excited and nervous all at the same time....

The due date is roughly two weeks from today. I tried to get them to induce but they think its too dangerous....

hehe...

you're going to have some fun - for the first few hundred miles.... trying to restrain yourself from kicking it fair in the guts :P
